OT: Peter Sarsgaard on living with Jake!
« on: April 28, 2006, 06:14:57 pm »

NEW YORK - Peter Sarsgaard got a new roommate to prepare for his role as a Marine in the Gulf War drama Jarhead.
The 34-year-old actor plays Jake Gyllenhaal's sniper partner in the film adaptation of Anthony Swofford's memoir, so he decided to spend as much time as possible with him in real life, he told the New York Times Magazine in Sunday's issue.

"I figured if I couldn't be around my girlfriend, I would settle for her brother," said Sarsgaard, who's dating Maggie Gyllenhaal. Sarsgaard and Jake Gyllenhaal lived together for about five months during filming, mostly in a hotel in Mexico.

"The idea was to simulate the military experience: what happens if you're forced to be with someone every minute of the day and night," Sarsgaard told the magazine. "And we fought. We'd have a fight and then we'd still have to be together. For a while, I would just wear headphones. All the time. That lasted for 10 days."

Order was eventually restored, he said.

Sarsgaard said he hurt his knee and ribs during filming, but shrugged off the injuries as part of the "endurance test."

"It's hard to complain because I'm an actor and not an actual soldier," he said. "I want to be very careful and respect the fact that there's really a war going on."

This may have already been posted back in the day but oh well...

He he, I love that picture... anything with Jake acting goofy makes me very very happy.  Peter Sarsgaard is nuts, you can never have too much Jake Gyllenhaal!!  ;D
‘cause the truth is, I already give him everythin’ I got to give, more than I ever even knew I had; ‘n it all for him, all of it, him who is my brother, my father, my child, my friend, my lover, my heart, my soul; my Ennis.

Am I the only one who didn't know about Peter (I'm a grower, not a show-er) Sarsgaard's frontal nudity scene in "Kinsey", AND the Liam Neeson on Peter Sarsgaard deep tongue kiss?

Question:  Do all male actors with double A's in their last names end up kissing other guys onscreen for a living?

Yeah, I got my first peculiar kick from "Kinsey." But hardly the last...

:) I remember very well the kiss with Liam because I saw it before I saw BBM - don't recall full frontal nudity by Peter (no pun intended - lol) I might just have to rent that movie again, hmm.......................(did I really say that?) ;D

My straight, red-neck, conservative cowboy male friend of mine saw both 'Kinsey' and 'BBM'.  He said the male/male sex in 'Kinsey' was 'more disturbing' to him than that in BBM.  Perhaps it was the nudity?

Probably the fact that it was a more promiscuious (sp?) sex.... maybe? I loved Kinsey, and loved Peter Sarsgaard in it, for more than one reason  ;)

Not sure.  He didn't elaborate, obviously (rednecks!).  I think it was the nudity.  He was shocked by Skaarsgard hanging all out, then lunging together with Neeson.

Mexico hunh?
Mmmm-hmmmm. !!!!

Did they re-enact the 'lots of masturbating' together too?  Did they take pictures/video???  Peter Sarsgaard is HOT.  Dying Gaul is well worth the rental!!!

There was a fan fiction I started reading in December that told about Jake and Heath "rehearsing" for their roles together in BBM.  It got real hot and nasty.  I'm now applying that story to this situation with Peter and Jake in my head.  Imagine:  "Hey Peter, I know you've done some gay films and gay sex scenes.  Wanna show me the ropes?  Give me some pointers?  Nobody's business but ours."

Yes it was full frontal nudity by Mr. Sarsgaard in Kinsey... He and Mr. Kinsey had a homosexual experience after checking out a gay bar in Chicago.

I thought the scene where they go into the gay bar circa 1955 Chicago most interesting. They tried to interview several different bar patrons, the queens ("Oh Mary, he must be joking"), the butch professional, and I felt so sorry for battered farm boy.

He relates how his father caught him with another guy when he was a teenager. His father then branded him (he shows Kinsey his "cattle brand" marks), and his brothers beat the living hell out of him and his boyfriend. He said he got lucky as he had only a few broken ribs. His friends didn't fare so good. Of course, his dad told him to get lost and never come back. NOw that was tragic.

It sounds like something Ennis's dad would do!  THough never seen, Ennis seems to implicate that his father could have played a role in killing a gay rancher. In the short story, Ennis tell Jack that his dad would take a tire iron to them if he walked into the motel room.

That guy was played by Lypsinka (John Epperson).

Has anyone else listened to the director's commentary on Kinsey?

It's really quite sad since the director says over the Peter Saasgard/Liam Neeson kissing scene that in a multiplex viewing he attended, the whole audience (which was mostly made up of teenagers) groaned in disgust. Since Bill Condon (director) is gay, I'm guessing that must have been pretty upsetting - he made a comment that he first saw a male-male kiss in the cinema over 20 years ago... and still people are still so easily shocked today!
Thank god I got to see BBM in the cinema with the best crowd ever - even though it was completely sold out, everyone was so respectful - no walk outs, complaints, talking, or inappropriate giggling - absolutely perfect!

Really? That is really sad, I hadn't listened to the director's commentary.  I saw it in a theatre in London and no one seemed all that surprised or made any fuss over it.  In fact, I was probably the most surprised (pleasantly surprised  ::) ) just because I wasn't familiar with the story and went in with no expectations...

Most of my BBM theatre experiences were similar to the director's commentary Kinsey experience.  All except for the first time I saw it I had people either groan/comment or walk out.

Yep.  Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Even so, it never ceases to amaze me that people went to see Brokeback only to be shocked by the love scenes.  I mean, how ignorant can you be?  And on a number of levels...

Yeah, you would think so... the first few times I saw it when it was early in its run I kept telling myself maybe they didn't know what it was, but by the end when it was getting all the awards and oscar hype you would've had to have been living under a rock not to know.  And no matter how many times it happened it surprised me...

It's strange though, even with all that going on, I miss seeing it in the theatre, it's just not the same on DVD...  :-\

HOw odd. I live in the AMerican Deep SOuth and I never heard or moan or groan. I saw it five times.  Guess I was lucky. ANd were suppose to be so right wing and uptight about homosexuality. Well at least were well mannered movie patrons in comparisons with other parts of the world, I gather.

Yeah I'm in the midwest, but St. Louis (especially when compared to the rest of Missouri) is a fairly liberal city... so I really was surprised.  The only time I didn't have trouble was the first time I saw it because I saw it in a little art house theatre before it got a wide release... I really have no explaination for why it happened, maybe just my own bad luck, or maybe the time of day I saw it (almost always in the afternoon) just brought in the bad crowds? And what's really strange about it is, almost without fail, the people who got up and left or who made comments the whole way through were older people.  I'd expect it from teenagers, but you'd think older people would have a little more respect.
