I like the connections some of you have been making between Jack and the sound of wind. Perhaps someone has pointed this out already, but there is another very subtle sound-image fusion that keeps haunting me. In the beginning, after Jack emerges from and kicks his truck, he walks toward Ennis but then, with his face in close up, senses resistance and looks away; right at this point, a faint buzzing of flies enters the soundtrack. It foreshadows the louder buzz when Ennis discovers the slaughtered sheep. This might be one way that Lee warns us of Jack's doom. Maybe a fly just happened to have accidentally passed through the sound system during that take, but I doubt it. This film has few if any accidents.
