Daniel's Books
« on: March 27, 2007, 12:21:33 am »
I sent my final corrections to the publisher this last weekend, after viewing the author's copy....  The book's cover is beautiful, thanks to Milli's efforts, and I admit that I actually enjoyed reading it... Of course that was the whole point of writing it anyway - to write something that I would enjoy reading (and I hope others will too.)

Dreamfilm: Brokeback Mountain Explored should be debuting soon.

I think it will be, but I know you can save 10% off the retail price at the publisher's website, so that might be a better way to go. I'll provide the link as soon as the publishers say its available.

Oooooh! Daniel!!  This is the first time I'm seeing your cover art - very nice!  I can't wait to get my grubby hands on it :).

And to get back OT, I want to reiterate what others have said....I haven't got my copy of the DC book yet, but I will.  I am glad they succeeded in successfully completing their project.  I imagine that the finished product will differ to some extent from its initial conception.  Nonetheless, I fully support any and all efforts to keep Brokeback Mountain alive in our hearts and minds.

Lynne the Cullen book is very very different from Daniels. Each has its niche. If you come to the BBQ we will be selling it there, it should be out at the beginning of May.

The DC book concentrates not on the film as such but on how the SS and film impacted people's lives. It uses individual stories from forum members. I think i9 have 2 lines in chapter 4, which makes me an author LOL.

One of the things that my book focuses on is questioning the potential reasons why the film affects us so much. I know that I personally have never been so enlivened by a film, and my curiosity into that response is what brought about the book.

Dreamfilm: Brokeback Mountain Explored is now available for purchase. Click on http://www.xlibris.com/Dreamfilm to order it directly from the publishers with a 10% discount off the retail price (at least I think, anyway. Let me know if it's not, but I thought that's what they said). Alternatively, you can try to purchase it at other online bookstores or have your local retailer order it. The paperback retails at $10.00, and the hardback retails at $20.00.

ISBN13: 978-1-4257-5000-8 (Trade Paperback)
ISBN: 1-4257-5000-1 (Trade Paperback)
ISBN13: 978-1-4257-5003-9 (Hardback)
ISBN: 1-4257-5003-6 (Hardback)

If you would like a signed copy, please let me know. (I will only sign hardbacks, if that's okay with everyone.)

UPDATE: The publishers have just informed me that this is a test page for orders, so I'm not certain if those are the correct prices or not. I do know that the publishers offer a 15% discount off of the paperback (softcover) price and a 10% discount off the hardback price.

UPDATE: My book of poetry (as Milli pointed out below) is also available for purchase at http://www.xlibris.com/MysticMadnessintheNight It is a few more pages, so slightly more expensive. The paperback retails at $20.99 and the hardback at $30.99. I think the special formatting that poetry often requires is also a contributing factor of the price.

Trade paperback ISBN:               1-4257-6284-0
Trade paperback ISBN (13):        978-1-4257-6284-1
Trade hardback ISBN:                 1-4257-6289-1
Trade hardback ISBN (13):          978-1-4257-6289-6

Also I have just been informed by my publishers that it will take at least 60 days for the books to be listed on Amazon, Borders, and Barnes and Noble webpages. So at this time it's only available direct from the publisher (or like I mentioned earlier, I think you can have your local retailer order it since there is now an ISBN #).

I think so..... you might want to wait a few days though.... I'm still surprised that the discount isn't coming up at xlibris bookstore, so there might be something not quite finished at the publisher's end.

ATTACHED: a larger picture of the cover for Mystic Madness in the Night. Yep, it turned out great, I'll have to keep coming to you for my other titles. We got a great thing goin', you and I. We could go places.

There are two ways that we could do this. You could either send me the money and then I can send you a signed copy. Or you could order the book and put my address in as the shipping address and then I'll sign it and send it to you.

Why does it take 60 days to get to Amazon and other retail websites.

Well, the hard part is over. Me writing the thing. It took me a year to research, six months to write, three months to edit. Done, ready for printing.
One month (at least) to be processed by a distributor. One month (at least) to be processed by a wholesaler. Up to one month to be processed by a retailer.

Dreamfilm: Brokeback Mountain Explored is now available for purchase directly from the publisher at www.xlibris.com/Dreamfilm.  To purchase a signed hardback copy, contact Daniel. The book is not yet available through other means, but can soon be purchased at Amazon.com, Borders, and Barnes & Noble bookstores. Paperback, $10.00. Hardback, $20.00.

"The film Brokeback Mountain has affected thousands of lives. Affecting even one life is no easy task, so when a film comes along that seems to change many people, society might pause for a moment and consider the repercussions. Dreamfilm: Brokeback Mountain Explored excogitates many of the concepts that the film brings to the forefront of consciousness: love, meaning, sexuality, individualism, happiness. The introduction to the idea of a dreamfilm explores the various ways in which the medium of film can affect even the smallest portion of self identity. "

Mystic Madness in the Night is now available for purchase directly from the publishers at www.xlibris.com/MysticMadnessintheNight. To purchase a hardback signed copy, contact Daniel. The book is not yet available through other means but can soon be purchased at Amazon.com, Borders, and Barnes & Noble bookstores. Paperback, $20.99, Hardback, $30.99.

"Fiery passions cooled by time and the subtle healing of the soul that arises when its great disturbances bring about great pain and transformation. Poetry demonstrates that all humans suffer under many circumstances, but more specifically that we all have a great capacity to heal. Healing transformation is what this madness of the night is all about, and the fact that many are capable of seeing emotional presence and embracing the human rights present there indicates that there is more to the universe than is perceived by the senses. The pain that blossoms by, whether in the heart or in the head, is an unavoidable part of humanity"

So Daniel, is the publisher sending you on a tour around the country to speak at Brokeback friendly bookstores?   ;)  Are you going to donate any to the libraries, after you've sold some.  I'll have to take a look.  DIdn't see it listed on Amazon.com, where I buy all my new books. But you said it takes 60 days.

Yes. It will take a while to reach the bookstores.

I am waiting until I have a little bit more revenue before going on a signing tour. I will need to buy some marketing materials from my publishers before I can really have a successful one. (I haven't even had the book professionally reviewed yet - it feels like a very exclusive text with a limited audience, so I'm not entirely certain that having it reviewed would do anything for it.)  I'm still mentally debating.

Thank you, Meryl. You helped a great deal already, you know.

I wish I could have done everything that everyone suggested but it just wasn't possible in such a limited time frame. I ultimately had to make the decisions, and I decided to go with my gut feelings and instincts.

I think so, Mel; although I'm certain that the shipping charges would be a little more costly. Once again, those are the delivery fees at the publisher's site. I have no control over that part of the project. You might want to wait until its available at Amazon, since they might be able to offer international delivery at a better rate. But either way, I am happy that you will have picked up the book.

Thanks, Bruce. Now that I know who Bruce is (and not some strange Batman impersonation), I can put aside my Riddler mask. Shame, it looked fun for a moment or two to put it on. I'm glad you're purchasing it from the publishers. Xlibris has been a very good company to me and they deserve every order they can get.

Ain't no small thing.... here's an excerpt from the introduction chapter of Dreamfilm: Brokeback Mountain Explored.

Quote
As a dreamfilm, "Brokeback Mountain" allows its observers to transform its story into a dream reality which can inspire self change. This experience uses the techniques of cinema to thrust a viewer through existing mental states and allows the search for a deeper or more perfect understanding of humanity - creating through image, motion, sound, the pace and change of dramatic development, the verisimilitude of the acting performance. Most importantly, the film reality becomes as devastatingly emotional as any dream reality. Some sensory experiences demonstrate the reality of the physical world: tests reveal nothing about their inner nature because no inner nature is actively pursued. Other more aesthetic sensory experiences are far more open to interpretation. A dreamfilm may be one of these experiences, similar to a Rorschach test, meaning not only that the film can elicit any emotional response, but also that its form has a universal power to evoke deep response. Many directors have attempted to create such films, but rarely has any such work exhibited a specific storyline.
Primarily, though, it is during the viewer's self conception and construction of self identity that the dreamfilm administers its affluence. If the dreamfilm is truly vitally shocking, then there can be little discourse but to hope to understand these deep-seated reactions. As a person comes to terms with the subtle nuances of this awareness, the emotional reality created by a dreamfilm experience comes to full fruition. A sudden epiphany: one realization is made and then another, and then another.... "Brokeback Mountain" is more than just a story. It has many deep and provocative things to say about the human condition.
