Since Maggie's on stage now in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, I guess the family will be together in New York for the holiday season. Isn't that nice for them?  :)

Yes, it is.

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!

I ran across a mention that a new photo of a really buff Jake -- a huge contrast to his skinny "Nightcrawler" look -- had been posted.

"Oooh," I thought, clicking on the link, "that sounds good."

But this isn't exactly what I had in mind. A little too buff, for my taste.

I saw that picture, too. Not too buff for me, though his Prince of Persia buff was more to my taste.

I wouldn't have recognized him at first without the caption. Then I thought, "Holy cow!"  :o

Then I thought, OK, I hope he doesn't make a habit of dropping all that weight and muscle for one movie and then packing even more of it back on, in probably a fairly short time, for another movie. I know Christian Bale has done it, but, seriously, I can't believe it's good for the body to swing between such extremes.

Not good for the body, perhaps, but good for the acting cred. Actors who physically transform themselves -- Matthew McConaughey in The Dallas Buyers Club, Robert DeNiro in Raging Bull, Christian Bale in The Machinist (skinny) and American Hustle (fat), Charlize Theron in Monster, and so on -- earn respect and sometimes Oscars.

Some of those muscles and bulging veins are fake, I bet.

Watched Nightcrawler last night - very creepy indeed and a very good performance by J!

No doubt about it, but still unhealthy.

The physical hazards of being an Oscar-winning actor. Or a professional football player or supermodel, for that matter.

I just saw it, too. I liked it a lot. Jake was scary. But then again, this is the first Jake movie I've even dared see for a while. That one about the kidnappings or whatever sounded way too disturbing for me.

This one was on the bearable side of disturbing. And the concept was great. But in defense of journalism, I'll have to say that I don't think the "If it bleeds it leads" credo is actually much of a thing, and a news director would never opt to withhold publicly available information in order to make a story more enticing. For that matter, no news director would flat-out tell her videographer that she wanted footage involving rich white people being attacked by criminals of color. Not to say journalists are never biased in their reporting, but they wouldn't just talk about it like it's a completely acceptable normal thing. When they mention racial preference in reporting at all, it's about seeking more fairness and diversity, not less. I get that it was supposed to be kind of a sketchy station, but geez.

However, if you chalk those up to cinematic license and ignore them, which I couldn't but maybe most people could, it was a very good movie. Better than Birdman, which I saw the week before.

Jake's long-shelved project "Nailed" is now called "Accidental Love" and there's now a trailer!  It sure looks strange.  But after Nightcrawler and Enemy, why not?

I still think "Nailed" is a better title.  It even has James Marsden with a pornstache.  What's not to like?

Some may recall that Lisa/BBMISWEAR met Jake during the filming of Nailed and she wrote a blow-by-blow travelogue.  (Can't readily find the link.)
