FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMENDMENT
« on: May 01, 2006, 09:14:54 pm »
Hey everybody--

I posted this on the IMDb Message Board, so I'll post it here as well:

On June 5th, the US Senate is supposed to be voting on the Federal Marriage Amendment, which will deny all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered Americans their right to marry their same-sex partner.

If you'd rather not see discrimination written into our Constitution, you can click this link, which will take you to a page where all you have to do is fill in your contact info (name, address, email) and the Human Rights Campaign will print out a postcard with your name and address on it. All of the postcards will be hand-delivered by the HRC to Capitol Hill before the vote.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting this. I have signed - hope they take it into consideration since I couldn't give a US address.

Thanks.

I posted this in another thread, but it bears repeating:

On Monday, June 5th, a day before the Senate is expected to vote on the Constitutional amendment, George Bush is expected to have a press conference to renew his support for FMA. Call, write, or email to let the White House know that discrimination has no place in the US Constitution.

This is important, if for no other reason to go on record as opposing descirmination being written into the constitution. We have had wars and turmoil to make that document include everyone. Now they want to exclude us.

This article has the best explanation that I could find about how the proposed amendment was defeated.  It's from a weekly NY gay paper: http://www.gaycitynews.com/gcn_523/25yearstotheday.html .  As usual I'm disappointed by Hillary Clinton's silence around the issue, although a NYC council speaker claims Clinton was busy behind the scenes.

It is a relief.  It can be reintroduced in a couple of years, but hopefully things will have moved along more by then.  J

I sure hope so Juan. I am getting tired of this. I guess just about every gay man and women in the U.S. is tired of it. :(
