This thread is for our residents to offer their assistance to other members.

Do you have a specialty? Are you good with email programs? Or perhaps just one?

Are you a whiz at posting pics? Uploading avators or editing pics?

Maybe you frequently travel and can offer tips for someone traveling...or maybe you are a good cook and can help someone that doesn't?

Post your name and your specialty...what you are willing to volunteer to teach or coach someone else...

It is a chance to help others and make new friends!

I can teach people how to knit and crochet, and lots of other stuff like that.  I'm not sure how to do over the computer, but I'll be happy to try.

Or we could start an actual Brokie knitting club. :D

I'm not sure what I can offer the Bettermost community as a volunteer. I'm not very good at too many things!

But I'll be more than happy to pm anyone a hug if they want me to! I'm a really good hugger! So, if you're feeling down and low, send me a pm and I'll give you a great big bear hug!  :D

share talents to help each other???A global advice center.
« Reply #16 on: May 24, 2008, 10:45:48 pm »
I was just defending Bettermost to someone I know.I explained that it was more than just a BBM site.Admittedly that is why I started posting. However,I have had some of the best and most sensible advice from people here.
I wondered if it might be an idea for people here with whatever skills they have to offer more specific advice,or point people in the right direction.
So for example I am an optometrist,I would never say that I would diagnose over the internet, but given some symptoms I would probably be able to say what the likely problem was,and direct people on where to go from there. They would also be able to go armed with more knowledge, which in turn means they are less likely to be messed around.
It was just an idea as I am sure we have a masive pool of talent here.
If nothing else,if anyone has concerns about their eyes just mail or im me I will gladly help where I can.
Obviously some things may be private,I don't expect people to post in full view their gyny problems or more personal things.Maybe we could make a list of what help and advice some people can or would be prepared to offer.I know it's easy for me as I don't work.It is just a suggestion.
Just where I live here, I have managed to save people money,by either directing them to an optometrist instead of ophthalmologist,or sometimes just tgeir practitioner. On one occasion, the pharmacy was the answer.
I have to admit I do not know if there are any legal implications here.

I am more than happy to have that done.I have to admit that I have no idea how to do it though.I have not seen the other thread.I should have known it would be lurking somewhere though. If you can merge them, that would great.I just think we probably have a whole lot of talent out there and it is a shame not to use it.Also it would keep my brain cells alive,if I had to switch them on to advise someone, once in a while.

Good idea for a thread, both times.  Not sure how I can help over the Internet, especially since I am so out of practice in many of these areas, but have training as a teacher, a nurse, and a psychologist (never finished this degree).  I know we have an overabundance of nurses here on BetterMost!  I have a little knowledge about a lot of things ... music (piano, guitar, flute), art (drawing, photography).  Not sure how I can be of help, but am here and willing.  Oh yeah, travel, have done lots of it.  Will be happy to advise in that regard.

I think travel is a good one, particularly with the holiday season nearly here.
So many people would like first hand experience of a place, rather than the travel guide sanitised version.
I envisaged that people could pose a problem/query and if some one can help, wonderful,if not,no harm done.
It was when I was answering a question on one of Artistes threads re his mom and cataracts that I thought of it.I can't perform internet surgery, but I CAn tell people what to expect, which many consultants don't as they assume Joe public is too dense to understand.
It also lets me feel useful again, as that is one aspect of work I do miss. The feel good factor. I don't of course miss the moaning Minnies.

So I can advise on  vision, eyes, spectacles, contact lenses,or at least point people in the right direction, as to where to go for help.
I am a reasonable cook, so recipe suggestions.
Travelled through most of Europe so holiday help.

Good idea!

Not sure if I can contribute with much though.

I´m pretty good with Photoshop if anyone needs that kind of help. I have done a lot of traveling as well and...damn that´s it. I´m a journalist by trade but I´m not sure that will do anyone any good. Sometimes I do wish I had a job where I could help others more.

and well, I live in Sweden so if anyone is thinking about traveling here I could probably be of some help as well

And I know a lot about tall ships if anyone needs that kind of expertise! ;D ;D
