Music producer Jim Steinman passed away on 4/19/2021.

James Richard Steinman (November 1, 1947 – April 19, 2021) was an American composer, lyricist, record producer, and playwright.  He also worked as an arranger, pianist, and singer. His work included songs in the adult contemporary, rock, dance, pop, musical theater, and film score genres.

His work included albums such as Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell (which is one of the best selling albums of all time) and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, and producing albums for Bonnie Tyler. His most successful chart singles include Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart", Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All", Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", the Sisters of Mercy's "This Corrosion" and "More", Barry Manilow's "Read 'Em and Weep", Celine Dion's cover of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" (originally released by Steinman's project Pandora's Box) and Boyzone's "No Matter What" (the group's first and only single to be popular and chart in the US, and for which Steinman only wrote the lyrics). Steinman's only solo album Bad for Good was released in 1981.

Jim Steinman's work also extended to musical theater, where he began his career. Steinman was credited with the book, music, and lyrics for Bat Out of Hell: The Musical, as well as lyrics for Whistle Down the Wind, and music for Tanz der Vampire.

I'm a big Jim Steinman fan.  His songs were over-the-top epic operatic sagas! They often had double meanings and plays on words that added to the experience.

Although his "muse" was Meat Loaf, as Chuckie mentions, he wrote songs for other folks, like Bonnie Tyler, Air Supply, Barry Manilow, and even Barbra Streisand!  She had a strange 80s album with this song by Steinman:  "Left in the Dark".  Do you recognize the bartender?

Yes.

But who's the guy in sunglasses?

No clue.

Another video from that album, "Emotion", features a very hunky Roger Daltry!

The bartender is her leading man from "A Star is Born". I was hoping there would be a lesbian backstory until the end which was a disappointment.

What a happy ending it was when Kris Kristofferson revealed that when everyone thought had dementia it was actually lyme disease.

I love "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and the version of "Highwayman" in which he is one of a quartet of famous singers. If there's anyone here who's not familiar with the latter -- possibly not, because it's pretty famous -- I bet they'd recognize at least a couple of the voices besides KK's. (Note: This might not apply to Sonja. Sorry, Sonja!  :'()

Wait. Seriously? He's had Lyme disease and not dementia?

And Baryshnikov!  Babs looks pretty ridiculous in her version of '80s fashion, however.
