He also looked like he had some sort of dental prosthetic that made him look like Val Kilmer to me--his teeth seemed to protrude more than usual.  Either that, or it was how he held his upper lip.  He certainly looked different as Ennis, though, without any prosthetic, so it could just be good physical acting.

You're right, Meryl! I've also wondered if the teeth are fake. And the Val Kilmer comparison is perfect; now that you mention it, I was subconsciously thinking the same thing.

The real-life version of Heath's character, Skip Engblom, appears in the special features, and he has teeth like that. (Interesting side note: Heath and the real Skip are interviewed together, and Skip claims to have been the one who insisted on Heath playing him in the movie, though it's not clear why.)

EDIT: Not clear why because he doesn't say, that is, not because it's not obvious why someone would want to be portrayed by Heath.

Two things that foreshadowed Brokeback:  one skateboard competition took place in Del Mar, California; and Heath said "Hunh" a lot.  ;D

Ha! Meryl! I noticed that too! Mentioned it on the PT board once..

I know this is the Heath thread, but I had a similar weird feeling, when I saw Jake in "Proof". I had seen BBM over and over and there he speaks with that strong slang. He was almost 'unrecognizable' as Hal in "Proof".

Meryl, your hypothesis is my command:

He doesn't just dance to it,  he has sex to it!  He is mouth watering in that scene.

He sure does. That's one of the gimmicks of the movie...and people either like or not. It takes place in the middle ages (knights jousting and all that) but has a modern rock score (lots of the jousting scenes are done to Queen's "We Will Rock You.") In this particular dancing scene, it starts off with typical middle ages lute music and then morphs into "Golden Years." The dancing morphs too. It is very hot.

I love it too when he dances! Heath dances in a lot of his films. He also humms or sings in many films. I made a whole statistic once on TOB, but I guess it's gone by now..
