No more "Write Congress/Internet Radio Death/etc. ads!
« on: July 23, 2007, 11:56:36 pm »
I personally was real annoyed by Live365's constant "Have you written Congress?" and "Internet Radio is Dying" overly-dramatic and highly annoying ad campain!  I know many of you also felt the same way.

Guess what!  Seems as though Live 365 has gotten over it!

They are not playing these ads anymore!  Come back and tune in today!  Welcome back!

Yippee!!   :D  :D  :D

I didn't mind it.  Seems like it was for a very good cause.  I knew it wasn't going to go on forever.

Here's what Pete (ptannen) had to say to Live365 in an email to them.

quote:

"Yes I did contact Senator Dianne Feinstein about saving Internet Radio re: royalty issue.

If you don't cut back on your announcements about contacting Congress, I will NEVER LISTEN TO LIVE 365 AGAIN.

You guys are getting carried away and those constant announcements are VERY, VERY ANNOYING.

ENOUGH, ALREADY!!!!"

Go on Pete!  I think it worked!  :D

Last I checked, there is some deal being worked out with Soundscan, the rights agency, which would keep royalty rates reasonable, but all Internet radio wll have to have digital rights management running (it prevents you from capturing a digital copy of the streaming music).  I don't know the specifics about all this yet, but round one of the campaign is over.  Yes, the ads have been annoying, but honestly this is the only way you prod people into acting, because we don't have the lobbyist cash to spread around to get what we want.

I'll report on all this in more detail when I get back.
