I can't believe I didn't think of this one earlier: Mahanagar, Satyajit Ray's remarkable 1963 feature about one woman's path to self-discovery and sisterly solidarity against the backdrop of an alienated and alienating world of work. One of the first films in world cinema to invoke an unambiguously feminist theme, without didacticism, and with a considerable amount of cinematic grace and skill.
