Quiz or Quizas? (answers now posted)
« on: May 08, 2006, 06:02:29 pm »
....That is the question!

Howdy folks and welcome to "Quiz or Quizas".  A little quiz put together by yours truly for the pleasure of you good people.  Now, as Celeste (co-writer) pointed out to me, as I was about to come up with my short list of questions, that as most of you have the DVD and/or screenplay of BBM, and I know what big cheats you all are, that you would just pop the disc in and whiz to the scene that was needed.  So, I have made all the questions about details from the film extra hard mainly using the help of my new best friend: the infamous 6x zoom!  Meet your doom with the 6x zoom!  There are also some easier ones in there for all you less experienced Brokies.

This is the first part of the triliogy:  Quizas, Quizas Reloaded (a special complete the line round) and The Quizas Revolutions.  Then that is definitely it for me on the quiz front.  I know I said that before but this time I am maxed out, "I swear".

Anyway, I figured the best way to do this is for you to copy and paste the questions to a PM and answer them as a PM and then send it to me.  This will then be marked and your score will be posted on this thread (unless otherwise stated in your PM).

After the quiz is first posted (today May 8th), the quiz will close 10 days later on the 18th of May.  After the answers are posted, I will announce who is the winner of all.  Then it will be on to the next quiz.  There's no messing around here.  If you wish for all of your scores to be added together please state that in your PM to me.

I would just like to say a special thanks to: Celeste, my quiz partner, for all the help with adapting the questions and cutting down the shortlist; David (Indiana), for helping me with the Aguirre's magazine question; and, of course, the brilliant mods here at "The Lighter Side Of The Mountain": Will, Fran, AnnMarie and Memento; and last, but not least, Philip, who has brought happiness to me through this site for the last few weeks. :-*  Anyway, enough with the thanking and on with the quiz.

Beckala!

P.S.  "U girls need a push?"  Will-U also edited, proofread, corrected and fixed a lot more with punctuation, grammar and "spacing"!

6-10: You been drinkin'? Outta that whiskey spring o' yours, I mean. All that drink must have gone to youe head!

11-15: Did the transmission go on your pick-up while making your way to Brokie high-school? Bad luck bud, you just missed out. I'll be sendin' up a prayer for you next time.

16-20: Howdy partner! Well done you are and official graduate of Quizas class 1. Feel free to piss in as many tents possible and sit on harmonicas anytime you like, you deserve it!

21-25: Ennis and Jack would be proud, you are a true Brokie through and through. You came up trumps....Oh, no wait a minute that was the beans.

26-30: Yee-haw, friend! That is more points than you've scored in the past few months. Coffee and cherry cake for all, that is unless you can't eat any just now!

This iquiz is a thing of beauty, Becky.  Is the response we send to you a one-shot thing?  Meaning, what if we PM you our response, and then we realize we know one or more other answers, do we get to add them?

I'm trying to decide whether to go ahead and send the ones I already know or wait til I'm sure I've gotten all I can, before sending.

TJ - please PM answers to Becky, don't post.  The answers, right or wrong, are a secret for now.  Thanks.

Why don't you do it for me? I rarely do PM contacts.

Firstly:

P.S.  "U girls need a push?"  Will-U also edited, proofread, corrected and fixed a lot more with punctuation, grammar and "spacing"!

That is the result of having no sleep and having to cram for a geography test that you have the next day! What would I do without my Wills? Hunh? ::) But why did you have to take my big heads comment out? Don't you like me commenting on how wonderfully big your head is Will?LOL

As you may notice I have also made a few more changes. Thanks to Fran and TJ for both pointing out that it is Jack and Lureen's bedroom and not a labour room. Also thanks to TJ for telling me that 'Elks' is the name of a social organisation and therefore does not reside anywhere. Changes have been made accordingly.
Also I would like to inform you that questions 22-24 are all about the rodeo where Jack and Lureen meet, not the one where Jack meets Jimbo after, that is question 21.
This quiz is a thing of beauty, Becky.  Is the response we send to you a one-shot thing?  Meaning, what if we PM you our response, and then we realize we know one or more other answers, do we get to add them?

Thank you for the kind words, all of you.
Yes it is fine to add them on, aslong as you are not cheating and watching the DVD as you go along. I will know if you cheat. *Puts feet on desk and stares through binoculars at all the Brokies rushing to get their DVDs*. Afterall, if you cheat you are only cheating yourselves.

Because I am here online, I am going to cut and paste TJ's resposes into a PM for Becky, then delete the post.

Thanks Lynne, I did get it and I will be posting TJ's score soon enough.

Now what I don't get is that you have all commented on it, but none of you (apart from TJ) have played yet. You will not get your Brokie Trophy if you do not play!

Thanks for the "bumping up of my score" in your game! That's fine; but, read on.

I missed some of the questions by not giving an answer to some of them which I did know the answer out right because I am disabled due to a head injury and also have a vision problem in my right eye due to a detached retina. That's also why sometimes I type "who" when I mean "how" or the opposite.

Not all of us are perfect, young lady and, according to your profile, some of us are old enough to be your grandparents, too. In the USA, you would have been considered to young to see the movie without a parent or guardian with you. One is supposed to be 17 to see an R-rated movie in the USA if one goes by oneself or without an adult if in a group of teenagers.

As I have already stated you may change some of your answers simply by PMing me what you want to change and such(I do it by PM to keep the answers private until I am ready to release them to the players).
I understand not all of us are perfect, believe me, you just have to ask Will as he is always editing my posts.

Please do not refer to me as young lady, although it is true(but I am not sure about the lady part ;) ) I find it quite patronising. And according to your profile you are not old enough to be either of my grandparents as my nan and grandad are atleast 20 years your elder. And yes, I am aware that in the US you have to be 17 to see an R-rated movie, as I learnt on one of my many trips to the US. But that is not the case in Europe. In the UK you had to be 15 or over to see Brokeback, parent or not.
I do not think that age matters when it comes to maturity and knowledge. Please do not assume you know everything about me because of my age, I may be young but I have been told many times before that I have an old head on my shoulders. And I am sure if you talk to any of the people who I correspond with regularly I think they will tell you so too, even though most of them are double my age.
Once again: Age does not affect maturity or intellegence.

On a lighter note, seeing as we are supposed to be on the lighter side of the mountain.
Deedee's score:
22: Ennis and Jack would be proud, you are a true Brokie through and through. You came up trumps....Oh, no wait a minute that was the beans.
Well done you are an official graduate of Quizas class 1. Feel free to piss in as many tents possible and sit on harmonicas anytime you like, you deserve it!
Well done, girl! That is the highest score so far. ;D

Now who thinks they can do better? Go on, have a go if you think you are hard enough!

Becky, I agree. I hate that term.

TJ, yes it's true that the official rule in the United States is that people under 17 cannot get into R rated movies, but in my experience, it is hardly ever enforced. Before I turned 17, I hadn't seen a rated R movie in the theatre, just because there was never one I particularly wanted to see. I was so excited to show my driver's license the first time I went to see one after turning 17, but I still have never been asked. What is your point in bringing up Becky's age? I see it as nothing but an attempt to claim some sort of superiority. How would you feel if you spent as much time on something as Becky obviously did on this quiz, and someone tried to dismiss it because of your age?

I was seriously teasing Becky with what was supposed to be my version of wry humor.

I have been patronized by quite a few people who were half my age and I was not the only person to whom they talked down.

While very strong so-called "adult" language was used in the movie and even in the original short story, it could have been toned down some without changing the spirit of the original intent of the story.

I have heard educated adults quote someone who never used 4-letter words when speaking to anyone and those adults add vulgar words into what was supposed to be a direct quote.

I have also heard educated or just morally straight adults quote a person who used lots of 4-letter words all of the time and they not even repeat what the person said word for word; but, the quote was exactly what the person meant in the first place.

There is an old saying, "The man had nothing to say so he swore." In that expression, all the man said were 4-letter and other vulgar, coarse words which we commonly call in the USA, "cussin'."

The truth of the short story and the movie should be seen by boys and girls in early puberty. If I had known some of the stuff that's in the movie and had the right knowledge to go with it when I was 12 years old, going on 13, I would have understood why I had certain feelings down below the belt in the presence of a real cowboy. He was the young adult son of our neighbor who was a rancher. The effect that had on me changed my interested in boys my age and younger to "older men" or just those in their teens who looked a whole lot like the cowboy in slim build and hair on their chests.

Just a quick bump cause I am bumping all my threads right now and it is fun to see "Becky, Becky, Becky" all after each other. I am sad an easily amused, leave me alone. As my mum always says when I laugh at reversing cars; "Small things please small minds" and so far she is  definitely right!

Becky,

You sure got my score back to me quickly. Thanks. As I told you by PM, I really was impressed with your Quiz. Obviously, you put a great deal of thought, time, and effort into it, and it shows.  I'm looking forward to the next one(s).

BTW, I'd be happy to accompany you to "group therapy."  (We can count the steps from the front door to the elevator -- just in case there's ever going to be a quiz.)

Thanks again.

I know I  said I would post the answers today but I haven't written the second installment yet. (I know it is easy to just copy from the screenpaly, but I want to do it properly) So I thought I would be nice and give all of you folks a bit more of a chance, a small extension if you will. But you have to take advantage of my kind extentions cause so far I have only had about 5 official players and I had hoped for a better turn out. But I suppose "Quizas Reloaded" will get more people as it will be easier.

God I hate making excuses! I have had to do that so much today, but I am so sorry: I can't post the results today! I know I am an awful human being and I should be hung for keeping all of you on your toes like this, but it is due to lack of time on my computer. Well my time has been cut down for today because....well I don't want to go into the whole incident, but I hit my sister: she deserved it! But anyway I have sort of been grounded from the computer for most of this week for reasons stated above, but I will definitely post them tomorrow cause it is Saturday and I am free from the Comupter ban! Halleluja(sp?)
Anyway I will see you tomorrow,
Love,
Becky(Quiz mistress extrodinnaire) :-*

Becky, I'm sure you didn't really "hit" your sister.  You just "touched her hard," right?

Thanks, Becky.  I'm not going to tell you how many times I rewatched the part where Ennis walked to the bar -- and still got it wrong!
