Oh my gosh! You guys are takin me back.
Sounds like my childhood!
My Nannie had grape arbors too and me and my cousins would pretend they were our houses and we were neighbors! We would drag all kinds of stuff out from nannies basement to "furnish" our houses. Funny, we never minded draggin it all out but we were so trod upon when it came time to put it all away!
We would play in the corn fields and play hide and seek in the rows. One day me and my cousin decided to eat the baby corn cause it was so sweet. We were sick as dogs!!
We made nannies porch a stage and I would Pretend to be Ed Sullivan using a jump rope as a microphone. My cousin would come out dressed in Nannies finery and put on a show! LOL
Oh we had some fun!

Haha -- Ed Sullivan! I love it, Rich!! Tell more!

The grape arbors made great houses, didn't they?

Do kids do things like that now? Like pretend games? So many of mine like to talk about the Xbox or PS2 games they play!! I really like the old fun and games more.  :P :D

I remember your daughter and nieces playing in their playhouse that you made -- that's a fun thing to do, too.

I just remember saying "We're going to have a really big shew" Like he would! LOL
We did all kinds of stuff like that though. We would make a haunted trail in the cornfields and charge kids to come through it.
LOL! That was until we got caught and had to give their money back!
Once we caught throwing apples at the Church across the street! We were trying to hit the bell so it would ring. We didn't seem to notice the apple sauce we were making all over the rest of the Church. Preacher Sawyer made us hose the Church off with the garden hose! LOL
we were so dumb, we cound't figure out how we got caught. Well the few times we actually did hit the bell it would ring! DUH!!!

Yeah, my daughter still plays make believe stuff. She has made a fort in her back yard and has all kinds of stuff at my Dads place. We make dams on the creek and catch frogs, crawfish and mudpuppies!
We have races with sticks in the creek. We do all kinds of fun stuff.
She has her video games but she would much rather play outside!!

Well, I grew up in the city, but still had a pretty vivid imagination.  My friend and I once took my mom's laundry basket, packed our lunch, tied balloons to it, carried the whole contraption to a grassy area, and waited to take off on our trip to Disney World.  Never mind that they were not helium balloons!

Speaking of imagination, my daughter just offered me an ice cream cone made of a stuffed leopard inside an upside down party hat.  I had to pretend to eat it, of course.  Happily, the imaginative tradition continues.

;D Cute! I'm sure the ice cream was delicious!

Your laundry basket with balloons story reminds me of my several various attempts to construct wings -- I jumped off the storm cellar and flapped like wild each time. I never perfected those!

(I love talking about this stuff! It's fun to remember.)

OK. I don't know what cackleberries are. That must be a Carolina expression! Explain it to me, please, Jack.  :)

What about the pigs? Did you like them or were you scared of them or anything? My granddad did not have pigs very often. They were a lot of trouble he thought. We had all kinds of chickens, turkeys, ducks and always at least a couple of cows.

Did you have a swingset in the backyard? That was a lot of fun too. Mine had a see-saw and two swings and bars on the end to flip on, but no slide! Darnit. LOL. I painted it all the time. Every time my grandparents would paint something, I took the paint remnants and gave my swingset a new coat. It had been red, blue, and yellow, as well as combinations of the three!  :P ;D

Do you ever think maybe you would have liked to been an architect or a DJ or an engineer or something because you like all those things from your childhood? I like what I do fine, but sometimes I wish I'd pursued other things. I love watching hawks and other birds of prey -- is that an ornithologist? But, you know, how many ornithologists are there? I guess I could have had a job at a zoo or wildlife refuge maybe. 20/20 hindsight sometimes. Another thing I thought about was veterinary medicine. I'm sure that's stressful, tho. Don't know if I could stand up to the pressure of having someone's pet's life in my hands -- I'm too fragile.  :P  ;)  8)

I'm not sure where the term "cackleberries" came from. Either I made it up or my grandma told me that's what they were. They were eggs and she used to make them for me. I asked my mother for some one time and she didn't know what they were. My grandma had chickens so I would go out and get eggs out of the hen house. She lived right below us and my mother did grow up on a farm. By the time I came around it was not as big of a farm as it had been. My grandpa died when I was very young so I hardly remember him. My grandma died when I was only around 12 or so too, but I remember her very well. They had cows at one time. I know my father talks about a cow that used to chase him around. He was from the city, Philadelphia, so I'm sure coming to the country was an experience for him. I don't ever remember being afraid of the pigs, but I know they were a lot of trouble to slop.

Yes I definitely had a swingset and guess what I always imagined it to be? An amusement park of course  :) Remember I have always loved amusement parks. So I pretended they were different kinds of rides. I don't think I ever had a slide either. I had one of those swings though with seats on each side. I used to try to get that to get high enough so that I could go over the top. Well in fact I wanted to do that with the regular swings too. And yes I loved the see saw except that many times nobody would be on the other side and that didn't work too well  :)

I definitely wanted to be a DJ. That was my dream!!! Even as an adult that has crossed my mind. I had a friend who was a DJ who travelled around to events only about 10 years ago and I thought about trying to get into that. That is probably the reason I seem to have so many music threads  ;D I thought the other day that I wanted to have one that focused on all new music cause I keep up on that too, but I started realizing that if I kept going on my blog was going to turn into a radio station  And my radio station would be so mixed up on formats that nobody would know what might play next.

Well darn, Jack.  I left you a picture of a really nice looking guy with a hairy belly, but it seems the prudes at Image Shack have been nosing about in my files again.

There wasn't anything pornographic about that picture.  It was a shot of a muscular man without his shirt on.  The top button of his jeans was undone, letting you see his "treasure trail" merge with the very top part of his pubic hair.  I guess this is what the human body-hating twit at Image Shack who deleted the picture objected to.

Sorry you didn't get to see him.  >:(
the only thing pornographic were my thoughts!!

Maybe the censor at Image Shack got upset because the picture made him think about doing it with a guy.   :P

I'm glad you got to see that guy at least.

Well I didn't get to see him  :( All I got to see was the motel. But thanks for sending it anyway, maybe Photobucket will accept it  ;D Also thanks Gary!!! You pushed me to 100 pages  ;D
