"K" is Kenny & Company (1976)
« Reply #5792 on: January 28, 2009, 10:45:12 pm »

From IMDb:  "Kenny & Company," a true independent, ultra-low-budget "B film," as they were referred to back then, is a true time capsule of life as a suburban adolescent in the 70's... set in California, the backdrop manages not to envelop the the movie. This is a movie that most 70's kids in America could relate to, even taking in environmental/racial/economic differences. That's because the movie isn't about any of those things.

Without getting into a obtrusively descriptive plot summary, "Kenny & Company" is about three childhood friends and their adventures over a 4-day period, including Halloween night. And in the those few days, the experiences they encounter are either comical, fearful, developmental and/or life altering, and often moments apart from each other. It is perfect in it's imperfection, with some moments a little cheesy, but isn't that par for the course at age 11?

From IMDB: For anyone who has grown up loving Hollywood musicals, the second half of this film is an absolute joy. Stanley Donen, who has arguably directed the greatest of these, had a chance to create an homage to them which includes every silly musical plot and song and dance device he could think of. Barry Bostwick's first number will knock your socks off and the finale (including dancers on bikes!) will put a grin on your face from start to finish. Watch for Stanley Donen's cameo as a cab driver.

"N" is Night Into Morning (1951)

From IMDb:  Ray Milland reprises his drunken "Lost Weekend" routine in this typical drama about a professor who mourns the accidental death of his wife and 10-year-old boy, and then, instead of adequately grieving over the loss, takes to drowning his sorrows in the bottle and becomes an alcoholic. His two best friends who care about him constantly try to set him on the straight and narrow path. I found this to be pretty standard with predictable results, with a stagnant plot that really doesn't go anywhere. What set this above average and worth one look is the good performance from Milland as well as a young Nancy Davis (Reagan) as one of the thoughtful friends who's devoted to him and can relate, having lost a spouse herself.

IMDb plot keywords include:  University of California

"O" is Over the Goal (1937)
« Reply #5796 on: January 31, 2009, 11:04:12 am »
In honor of the Superbowl:  Over the Goal.

User comment:  Injured Carlton State quarterback Ken Thomas (knee) makes a promise to his girl friend that he won't play again. Then, when she relents, he is kidnapped by crooks hoping to make money from the big game. Production values hurt the film in some scenes but there are a few enthusiastic performances, especially from Scat Davis. He displays penchant for comedy. Also, his fine singing voice and trumpet playing are featured in two short songs and in a production number near the middle of the film. Members of the USC football team also appear as it was partially filmed in the Rose Bowl. Marie Wilson and Jane Wyman appear briefly as co-eds.

From nytimes.com: This colorful surfing documentary catches the waves from California to Hawaii as participants continue their endless search for the perfect wave. The surfers reveal their motivation and obsession with the sport that appears to be the highlight of their lives. Ecological concerns becomes more evident among surfers, but a disturbing trend of intolerance towards non surfers encroaching on their "territory" coincides. Imaginary lines are drawn between surfers and non-surfers. Moog synthesizer inventors Paul Beaver and Bernie Krause provide the soundtrack music along with Sky Oats, Colorado Purple Gang, Ashish Khan, Pranesh Kahn, Zakir Hussain, and David Crosby.

Thanks for posting "Lifeguard".  Interesting tagline:  "Every girl's summer dream".  Not quite...LOL.  Let's pause for a little Parker Stevenson moment:
