"O" is One of our Aircraft is Missing (1942)
« Reply #6300 on: January 10, 2011, 08:02:26 pm »

IMDb:  During the Allied Bombing offensive of World War II the public was often informed that "A raid took place last night over ..., One (or often more) of Our Aircraft Is Missing". Behind these sombre words hid tales of death, destruction and derring-do. This is the story of one such bomber crew who were shot down and the brave Dutch patriots who helped them home.

Original title:  Papurika

Plot keywords include:  Missing Person

From IMDb:  Three scientists at the Foundation for Psychiatric Research fail to secure a device they've invented, the D.C. Mini, which allows people to record and watch their dreams. A thief uses the device to enter people's minds when awake and distract them with their own dreams and those of others. Chaos ensues. The trio -- Chiba, Tokita, and Shima -- assisted by a police inspector and by a sprite named Paprika, must try to identify the thief as they ward off the thief's attacks on their own psyches. Dreams, reality, and the movies merge, while characters question the limits of science and the wisdom of Big Brother.

"S" is Silent Hill (2006)
« Reply #6304 on: January 11, 2011, 03:50:06 pm »

From IMDb:  Video games never seem to translate well to film, or most of the time anyway. Once in a blue moon you do get one that isn't a total stinker like the first Tomb Raider movie or Alien vs. Predator, but even then they rarely turn out to be better than average. Silent Hill, for these reasons is definitely one of the best game to film translations but that, sadly, doesn't make it a great piece of cinema. Don't get me wrong, its entertaining stuff and a good Saturday or Friday night movie, but looking at the cast and crew involved along with the undeniable quality of the source material, it's really a bit of a pity it isn't better.

The story follows Rose, whose daughter Sharon is sleepwalking and when she does she talks about a place called Silent Hill. Rose decides to take Sharon to the town of Silent Hill in the hope that what is clearly disturbing her daughter's mind can be resolved when she sees the place. The place itself is now a ghost town, abandoned for years it would seem. However, when Rose and Sharon reach the outskirts of the town, they have an accident that leaves both mother and daughter knocked out. When Rose wakes up Sharon is missing, and it's up to her and Police Officer Cybil to find the little girl in a town where everything is far from what it seems.

"W" is Winter's Bone (2010)
« Reply #6308 on: January 19, 2011, 11:37:16 am »

IMDB: This shockingly diverse film offers numerous delights to the viewer. Beginning with simple title credits, and ending in a beautiful display of foliage. Winter's Bone will grab your attention and never let go.

Based on a novel of the same name, it's the story of a seventeen year old girl who is searching for her missing father. Sound like something you've seen before? Well it's not! The basic premise surrounds itself with remarkably new idea's and situation's. A feeling of noir envelopes the screen and each character and action leads you on a most enjoyable journey. The Actor's and more importantly Actress, are dug so deep into their characters that there isn't a single fake second.

Debra Granik does an amazing job in the director/screenwriter role. Her vision entangles the story together and propels it forward to the unforgettable climax. The world that is shown through this story is one i was unfamiliar with, but after seeing the film all i can think about is the life those characters lead. And how different it is from my own.

A film that deserved the grand jury award at Sundance and one which i hope to see again. Winter's Bone is a film for everyone, be you young, old, or in the middle. Just walk into the cinema with an empty plate and you will leave filled.

Butch Saunders has been transferred to Missing Persons because he was too brutal in other police work. He regards the assignment as "kindergarten" work. When a young woman asks him to help locate her husband, Therme, he learns that she is really Norma Phillips, wanted by Chicago police for murder of her husband. She escapes, but Saunders borrows a corpse from the morgue to arrange her fake funeral. The trap brings the woman and Therme to the mortuary out of curiosity.
