Wildcard X: Le Salaire de la peur

In English, Wages of Fear. All right, I'll admit, I have never heard of this movie. But it shows up as #10 on the list of top movies for the decade (1950s) on IMDb. Commenters all rave about this, saying how great it is, even better than Les Diaboliques (same director). One commenter wrote, "No student of film should miss this. It would be like missing Citizen Kane or Dr. Strangelove or especially The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, which it vaguely and strangely resembles. "La salaire de la peur" is, regardless of its flaws, one of the best ever made."

Apparently it is on a Criterion DVD. Another one to look for!

I saw it when I was young and was really affected by it.  I have since bought the Criterion DVD and it truly is a masterpiece of suspense and nail-biting tension!  William Friedkin did a remake in 1977 called Sorcerer. It was his follow-up movie right after The Exorcist.  For some reason it basically bombed at the box office but it's quite underrated and also worth a look, maybe as a part of a bouble-bill with the original.
