Comment: Le Salaire de la peur (1953)
« Reply #1781 on: November 26, 2007, 12:29:52 am »
I played this movie back in the 1953 Round and up until that moment, I had never heard of it. It showed up on several "best" lists (which is what caught my eye) and after I played it, I read a bunch of reviews and commentaries. I was intrigued. So I made a trek to the obscure video store in Portland the other day and they had the Criterion Collection copy for rent and I watched it this evening and....

Oh. My. God.

All the reviews are correct. This is one nail biter of a film. I watched the whole thing and I am ready to turn around and watch it again (except it is 11:30 at night and I have to work tomorrow). But whatever...

If you like movies, you need to see this one. It was great. It has just shot onto my top ten list of all my life. It was THAT GOOD. Seriously.

Oh. My. God.

Here's the poster:

Watch it. Enjoy.

Change the "TWELVE" to "TWO" and that woulda been a good slogan for BBM.

I just re-watched this not too long ago...the scenes of post-war Vienna are really something to see. Won the BAFTA for Best British Film.

(Couldn't find an image, but there's a popular song with the same name; don't know if it was featured in the film.)  Per IMDb:  At a college, a group of ex-GIs clash with their wives about playing football.
