Yes, I hated introducing such angst into the storyline on Christmas Day... I'm sure it breaks with every tradition of having the Christmas Day episode being a happy and cheerful one... but it was my first attempt to write a soap opera episode, so I had to have some type of conflict that drives the story.  If there's no Nuke today, I'll write another one, and keep the story going.
Why do we consume what we consume?
Why do we believe what we believe?
Why do we accept what we accept?

I thought the whole falling in the pond thing fit very well into the genre, there is ALWAYS something dramatic going on. and it moves at a fast pace like that. I think you have the style down very well...the only part I didn't get was the "flashback" but that may be because I haven't been following the story as well as you have...

Ahh.....

Lily and Dusty have had an affair for some time now, and it's one of the reasons why Holden and Lily are getting divorced (for the second time?); the older children (Faith and Luke) know it's because of Dusty and Luke is critical of Dusty and Lily's relationship. I wanted that to kind of be present in Lily's state of mind as she's with Holden, because truth be told (and everyone knows this) - Lily and Holden are still in love and will continue to be in love. Just throwing a bit of guilt - even though I think that guilt is one of the stupidest emotions around. It doesn't resolve anything... lol... but it does build up angst. And I think that's what soap operas are good at.

got it..

but you are wrong about guilt I think.

Guilt is your own id telling you you have compromised your own standards of behaviour (not talking about guilt trips others try to lay on you).

I think you might be confusing guilt and shame.

Shame is a productive emotion, where you know you've done something wrong and need to do something about it.

Guilt is a concretion of a secretive existence, usually, one that you feel you have to hide from other people because they will likely make judgemental decisions based on that existence.

Ah, but let's not quibble over crossed t's and dotted i's. The point is, it's angst... :)

“AS THE WORLD TURNS”

TELEPLAY TO AIR DEC 26, 2007

<FADE IN>

SCENE: THE SNYDER FARMHOUSE

CLOSEUP OF NATALIE ON A GURNEY, UNCONSCIOUS
LILY AND HOLDEN ARE IN THE KITCHEN. LILY LOOKS ANXIOUS AND HOLDEN LOOKS SERIOUS. NOAH, LUKE, EMMA, MEG, AND CRAIG ARE SITTING AT THE TABLE. LUKE IS HOLDING FAITH.

PARAMEDIC (TO OTHER PARAMEDIC):
Ready? And – Lift.

THEY LIFT NATALIE UP ON THE GURNEY AND TAKE HER OUTSIDE.

LILY (LOOKS ANXIOUSLY AT HOLDEN):
Oh my god... Please let me go with her.

HOLDEN (PAUSES):
Fine. Go ahead. I'll be up to the hospital right behind you.

LILY GOES OUTSIDE.

A PARAMEDIC REENTERS THE ROOM.
PARAMEDIC:
It's Noah, right?

NOAH:
Yeah.

PARAMEDIC WALKS OVER TO NOAH AND EXAMINES HIS EYES WITH A PENLIGHT
PARAMEDIC:
There's no dilation.
You seem pretty healthy for someone
that just jumped into a freezing pond.

NOAH (TRYING TO JOKE):
It's not like I haven't jumped in it before.
It just wasn't as cold the last time.

LUKE LAUGHS.

<FADE OUT>

<OPENING TITLES>

<COMMERCIAL>

<FADE IN>

SCENE: THE HOSPITAL HALLWAY

LILY IS STANDING OUTSIDE A HOSPITAL ROOM.

HOLDEN AND EMMA ENTER THE HALLWAY.

HOLDEN (TO LILY):
How's Natalie? Is she all right?

LILY:
Bob's with her now, we'll know soon.

EMMA:
Oh, poor girl. This is dreadful.
And on Christmas too.

THE DOOR TO THE HOSPITAL ROOM OPENS AND BOB STEPS OUT
CLOSING THE DOOR BEHIND HIM.

BOB:
Natalie's awake now. She seems to be healthy
but I'd like to keep her here a day or two for
observation.

LILY NODS:
Whatever you think is best.

HOLDEN REACHES OVER AND RUBS LILY'S SHOULDERS.
EMMA LOOKS RELIEVED.

EMMA:
Thank God. It's not as bad
as it could have been.
What if – what if Noah hadn't
been there?

HOLDEN:
Lets not think about that now, Mama.
Just be thankful that he was.

LILY:
Are Luke and Noah coming also?

HOLDEN NODS:
Yeah. Noah brought Faith and Luke in his truck.
They left right after we did.
Meg and Craig are staying at the house
until we get back.

EMMA (CHEERING UP A BIT):
Luke and Noah wanted to get some things ready for
Natalie before they left.

DUSTY ENTERS AT THE BACK OF THE HALLWAY
BUT STAYS OUT OF SIGHT.

<FADE OUT>

<COMMERCIAL>

<FADE IN>

SCENE: HOSPITAL HALLWAY

LUKE, NOAH, AND FAITH ENTER THE HALLWAY
CARRYING ARMLOADS OF CHRISTMAS PRESENTS.

NOAH (TO LUKE):
Are you sure this is the right hallway?

NURSE EXITS HOSPITAL ROOM:
Who are you looking for?

LUKE:
Natalie Snyder?

NURSE POINTS TO HOSPITAL ROOM:
She's right in there.

FAITH:
Do you think she'll like the surprise
we brought her?

LUKE BENDS DOWN AND LOOKS INTO FAITH'S EYES:
I can't see why not.
Who wouldn't like a whole
Christmas party?

<FADE OUT>

<FADE IN>

SCENE: HOSPITAL ROOM

HOLDEN, LILY, AND EMMA ARE STANDING OVER THE BED WHERE NATALIE IS LAYING. SHE'S AWAKE IF A LITTLE GROGGY.

NATALIE:
Mom? Dad? Grandma?

LILY:
We're right here, honey.

EMMA:
I'm here too, dear.

NATALIE STARTS TO CRY:
Did I ruin Christmas?

HOLDEN:
No sweetheart!
It was an accident.

NATALIE TRIES TO STOP CRYING.
Noah – Noah saved me?

LILY NODS:
Yes. Noah was very brave.

NATALIE:
Is he – is he alright?

EMMA:
A strapping young man like that? I'm sure he's fine.

HOLDEN:
Noah's great, Natalie.
If he hadn't jumped in to grab you
you could have gotten really sick.

NATALIE:
I know....

!KNOCK ON THE DOOR!

LUKE OPENS THE DOOR AND PEERS IN.

LUKE:
How's our ice skater doing?

NATALIE:
Luke! You're okay too?

LUKE (STILL TRYING TO KEEP IT LIGHT):
Umm, yeah. I only got sprayed by the splash.
Oh, I brought this ragamuffin with me too.

LUKE OPENS THE DOOR WIDER AND FAITH
WALKS IN HOLDING AN ARMLOAD OF PRESENTS.

NATALIE (NOW FULLY AWAKE):
Faith! You brought the presents?!
We can have Christmas after all!

<TRANSITION>

SCENE: THE HOSPITAL HALLWAY

NOAH WATCHES LUKE AND FAITH
FROM FURTHER BACK IN THE HALLWAY.
DUSTY ENTERS THE HALLWAY AGAIN
AND NOAH NOTICES HIM.

<FADE OUT>

<COMMERCIAL>

<FADE IN>

SCENE: HOSPITAL HALLWAY

NOAH QUIETLY PUTS HIS PRESENTS DOWN
AND WALKS OVER TO WHERE DUSTY IS.

NOAH:
Mr. Donovan. What are you doing here?

DUSTY:
I heard about the little girl.
Is she alright?

NOAH:
Her name's Natalie.
And the way everyone's going on, I
think she'll be fine.
I don't think you should
be here though.

DUSTY (PEERS AROUND):
I'm sure it's okay.
You're having a good holiday?

NOAH (CONFUSED):
It's fine.... Mr. Donovan!
I really think you need to
leave, before someone sees you.

DUSTY (PUTS HANDS UP):
Okay, okay. I'm going.
Just wanted to make sure you
and Luke and Lily are doing alright.

NOAH:
We're fine!
And what we're not fine with,
we can muddle through
without too much difficulty.

LUKE (TURNING BACK INTO HALLWAY):
The hero's right out here. He's got -

LUKE NOTICES NOAH TALKING TO DUSTY.

LUKE (CONT'D):
He's got the rest of our Christmas
presents.

NOAH BELATEDLY REALIZES LUKE IS TALKING TO HIM.
HE TURNS BACK TOWARD HIM AS DUSTY QUICKLY EXITS.
LUKE WALKS TO WHERE NOAH PUT DOWN THE PRESENTS
AND NOAH QUICKLY MEETS HIM THERE.

LUKE (SUSPICIOUS):
What was all that about?

NOAH:
What? He wanted to know
if Natalie would be okay.

NOAH PICKS UP THE PRESENTS

NOAH (CONT'D):
We've got presents to deliver, right?

LUKE:
Right, just take them in there and help Faith
and Natalie. There's so much stuff, it'll take us all day
just to unwrap it all.

NOAH NODS AND SMILES AT LUKE, TAKES THE PRESENTS
INTO THE HOSPITAL ROOM, TO THE SOUND OF LOUD
CHEERS.

LUKE REMAINS IN THE HALLWAY, THOUGHTFUL FOR A MOMENT.

<FADE OUT>

<COMMERCIAL>

<FADE IN>

SCENE: HOSPITAL ROOM

NATALIE IS ASLEEP IN THE HOSPITAL BED, CURLED UP WITH A NEW
DOLL AND A BOOK. HOLDEN AND LILY ARE STILL STANDING OVER HER
WHILE LUKE HAS FALLEN ASLEEP IN ONE OF THE VISITOR'S CHAIRS.
FAITH IS ASLEEP IN HIS LAP.

LILY (WHISPERING):
Luke... Luke!

LUKE SUDDENLY WAKES UP.

LUKE:
Yeah, Mom...
LUKE STRETCHES
God, what time is it?

HOLDEN:
Visiting hours were over 30 minutes ago.

LILY (WHISPERING):
Shh, Natalie's asleep.

CAREFULLY AND QUIETLY, LILY, HOLDEN, LUKE, AND FAITH
EXIT THE HOSPITAL ROOM TO THE HALLWAY.

<TRANSITION>

SCENE: HOSPITAL HALLWAY

HOLDEN CAREFULLY CLOSES THE DOOR BEHIND HIM.

LUKE LOOKS AROUND:
Where'd Noah go?

HOLDEN:
He took most of the presents back to the house.
There was a lot of stuff.

LILY:
Yes, there was. But Natalie loved every minute of it.
Thank you, Luke. It was so sweet of you to bring Christmas
to her.

LUKE (SHRUGS):
It was Noah's idea. I just went along for the ride.

FAITH:
Can we come visit Natalie tomorrow?

BOB ENTERS THE HALLWAY, OVERHEARING THE LAST QUESTION.

BOB:
Even better. She can probably go home tomorrow.
She's obviously a very healthy child.
That Noah did his part. Fast thinker.
You're very lucky.

HOLDEN (THINKING CAREFULLY):
I know. He's saved two of my children now.

<FADE OUT>

<COMMERCIAL>

<FADE IN>

SCENE: THE PORCH AT THE SNYDER FARMHOUSE

NOAH IS SITTING ON THE BENCH, ABSORBED IN HIS THOUGHTS.
LUKE, HOLDEN, LILY, AND FAITH ENTER FROM OUTSIDE AND HEAD TOWARD THE DOOR. NOAH LOOKS UP AT THEM.

LUKE:
I'll be in in a minute, Dad.

HOLDEN LOOKS OVER AT NOAH:
Don't take all night.

HOLDEN IS THE LAST TO ENTER AND THE DOOR CLOSES.

LUKE SLOWLY WALKS OVER TO WHERE NOAH IS AND SITS
DOWN NEXT TO HIM.

LUKE:
I – That was a very brave thing
you did today, Noah.

NOAH:
No it wasn't. There wasn't any
time to think...

AWKWARD SILENCE

NOAH (CONT'D):
You would have done the same thing
if you could have.

LUKE:
Maybe. I would have tried to do something.

NOAH LEANS BACK IN THE SOFA.

NOAH:
I only hope she's up on her feet soon.

LUKE:
I'm sure she will be.

LUKE GETS TEARY-EYED.

And it's all because of you.
My god.. If you hadn't been there...
Natalie could have died.

NOAH:
Luke! Don't make such a
big deal out of it! I know
you would have done the
same thing I did.

LUKE:
I know. But still,
it makes me so proud.
I'm so proud to know you,
Noah. To love you.
It's like....

LUKE SHAKES HIS HEAD.

I can't even begin to describe it.
Being with you is like nothing I've ever felt before.
I just want you to know that.

NOAH:
Luke....

NOAH AND LUKE LEAN FORWARD TO KISS.

!THE DOOR BANGS OPEN!

HOLDEN STICKS HIS HEAD OUT THE DOOR:
Guys, come on in. It's supposed to be cold tonight.
Mama made some hot cocoa for everyone.

LUKE SHAKES HIS HEAD, LAUGHING TO HIMSELF:
Okay, Dad. We'll be in.

LUKE STANDS UP, AND NOAH TAKES HIS HAND, LOOKING
UP AT HIM. LUKE SMILES BACK AT HIM.

NOAH:
You think your grandma made any more cookies?

LUKE LAUGHS.

<FADE OUT>
