What was I thinking (BENT)

Teddy was a beauty from South Alabama
His Daddy had a heart like a nine pound hammer
Think He even did a little time in the slammer
What was I thinking?
Ted snuck out one night and met me by the front gate
His daddy came out waving that twelve guage
We tore out the drive, he peppered my tailgate
What was I thinking?

Oh I knew there'd be Hell to pay,
But that crossed my mind a little too late!

Chorus
Cuz' I was thinking 'bout a thin white tank top sitting right there in the middle by me
I was thinking about a long kiss, man just gotta get goin' where the night might lead
Well I know what I was feeling But What was I thinking?
But What was I thinking?

What was I thinking?

By the county line the cops were nipping on our heels
Pulled off the road kicked it to 4 wheel
Shut off the lights, tore through a corn field
What was I thinking?
Out the other side he was hollerin' "Faster!"
Took the dirt road had the radio blastin'
Hit the Honky Tonk for a little close dancin'
What was I thinking?

Oh I knew there'd be Hell to pay,
But that crossed my mind a little too late!

Chorus
Cuz' I was thinking 'bout a thin white tank top sitting right there in the middle by me
I was thinking about a long kiss, man just gotta get goin' where the night might lead
Well I know what I was feeling But What was I thinking?
But What was I thinking?

What was I thinking?

When a mountain of a man with a "Born to Kill" tattoo
tried to give lip I knocked out his front tooth
Ran outside hood sliding like Bo Duke
What was I thinking?
I finally got him home at half past two
His daddy's in a lawn chair sittin' in the driveway
Put it in park as he started my way,
What was I thinking?

Oh What was I thinking?
Oh What was I thinking?

And Ted gave a come and get me grin,
And like a bullet we were gone again!

Chorus
Cuz' I was thinking 'bout a thin white tank top sitting right there in the middle by me
I was thinking about a long kiss, man just gotta get goin' where the night might lead
Well I know what I was feeling But What was I thinking?
But What was I thinking?

What was I thinking?

What was I thinking?

;) Cool, I hope it grows. It would be nice to be able to tell people I was bent without having to explain it!

I love 'em too! Altho I don't quite understand why they are bent? Is it because, like Annie Proulx, they take a cockeyed look at life (love that word!)? Or are they bent because some of the words are changed? Clueless minds want to know! But in the meantime, I'm still loving this thread!

And here is a bluegrass lyric I've heard for years and last weekend just struck me funny:

I ain't broke but I'm badly bent

I'm a going back to the country
I can't pay that rent
No I'm not completely broke
But brother I'm badly bent
I can't understand where my money went
But I ain't broke but I'm badly bent

When I get back to the country
I'll be living in a tent
Ma and Pa will surely be mad
Bout all the money I spent
I can't understand just where itwent
But I ain't broke just badly bent

Well I had a lot of money
But to the city I went
I met too many good locking firls
And that's where my money went
And now I know just where it went
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent

I can't understand where my money went
But I ain't broke but brother I'm badly bent

"It was only you in my life, and it will always be only you, Jack, I swear."
