I heard a picec on public radio once that in different languages people interpret the sounds an animal makes differently. Like I would say a cat says Meow but in German it might be different.
In German it's "Miau", which sounds pretty close to meow since both are mimicking the same cat sound.
But "woof-woof " is very different from the German "wau-wau". Mimicking two different kinds of barking.
It's the same with those little sounds humans make, which aren't really words. For example a *phew* would be a "Puh!" (a sound as in Winnie-the-
Pooh).
Those are difficult for me, you don't find them in a dictionary. Well, it's easy to understand the English version when I read it, but it's hard to find an English correspondent for a German sound.
