Film: Compulsion; the first GAY film??
« on: October 20, 2007, 09:45:38 pm »
Just saw last year the film Compulsion with Orson Wells ans two marvelous actors!!

Thought that is was done in the 1920's, but just found out that Orson Wells got a Canne's award for it in 1959!

The two main other actors all have past away?

One of the murderers was killed, butchered, while he was in prison.

The other did his times in prison, but went afterwards to Porto Rico, I recall. Is he still alive?

Was this called, this first homosexual film? In a way...

hugs!

It's based on the Leopold and Loeb murder case.   I actually wrote a paper about the three films based on the case:  Rope, Compulsion, Swoon.

Leopold died some time ago.   Loeb was the one killed in prison.

The first film in the list was by Hitchcock.

The last one was made in the 90s but is b/w and very artsy.     All three are worth checking out.

Compulsion was actually made in the 50s.  Dean Stockwell played one of the murderers.

Thanks shortfiction!

Was Leopold still living in Porto Rico when he past away? Did he give any interviews after coming out of prison or before his death? He married there, right?

They were both very wealthy. Why did they murder?

Hugs!

Yes, I think he died in P.R.  He wrote a book that gives a lot of info about him and Loeb. Can't remember the title, but his name is Nathan Leopold.  It should be in any library.

They enjoyed committing crimes together and Leopold did everything he could to please Loeb.  They really thought they could get away with it and that they had superior intellects.

Did you say that they did more than one murder, maybe?

According to an interview with one of the main actors or the director, the camera directs us telling us that the two main charactors were homosexuals, as that term was said then!

So is this the first one as a gay one maybe?
