One of my favorite shows has become one of my least favorite since last Thursday night. I am talking about Survivor and they voted out my favorite one, Aaron. I was not happy about that. The other tribe stole him and then two of the women threw the immunity challenge so that they would loose. And then they voted him off. I'm not sure how much I'm going to watch it after that since I don't really like any of the others. I probably will though. I will just pull for the one everybody hates the most, Jean Paul  :D

did ya'll see that show about the Cavemen?? from the Geico commercials??

oh my GOD that is the WORST show I have ever seen.....what the heck is the point? Only a silly over the top "Third Rock From the Sun" show would have worked with that premise to me...I think they are trying to shoot for "Seinfield"!!

It is PAINFUL to watch...

I sure do agree about "Caveman" It is really bad. I expect that it will not last very much longer unless people are even weirder than I think  ;D I never liked them on the Geico commercial so I sure don't want to see them on a dumb TV show. Survivor started about 4 weeks ago and I probably will keep watching it. I always do  :) You can catch up on it pretty easily. I think there have only been 4 people eliminated so far: Chickenman (thank God), Leslie (thank God), Dave (I actually liked Dave even though a lot of people didn't), and Aaron  >:(

What's TAR? My friend likes "Dexter" -- I haven't seen it, but I feel like I have because she felt compelled to tell me ALL about it -- and she's not old.  :P

I think it's on HBO--which is one reason I haven't seen it--no HBO.
LOL -- no wonder I couldn't find TAR on IMDb. I found a movie by that name, but not a TV show.

The Amazing Race is great! You have to watch it with us this year!

they pick all these couples, lovers, parent/child, brother/sister...whatever and they have to race around the world...it is very fun!

I've only ever briefly watched Desparate Housewifes, but I saw an advertisement where a new couple moves into the neighborhood. It happens to be a male couple. Could be an interesting twist  ;)

Showtime

I'll check it out. Thanks for letting me know. I remember an older show that had a similiar title, but I didn't think that was it. It seems like from what I remember it was a little like the show that had Steve Erkle (sp) in it.

No I haven't. I don't know much about that show. Has that storyline been going on long? I haven't watched last night's episode yet since I recorded it. Cold Case came on at the same time and that is one of my favorite shows too. Although, none of the episodes of Cold Case have even come close to "Forever Blue" and I doubt that any will.

YAY! Thank ya'll!!!

I will watch and we will all pick a fave! LOL!!

Jack, Bri has a gay teenage son. LAST year he had quite a long storyline...he had a boyfriend, he stole his mom's credit card and was just MEAN as he could be.....(he blamed his mom for his dad's death...(then he SLEPT with her boyfriend)  ::) ::)

He is much better this year though...playing a much smaller role.

Okay - so i don't know how long this is since I'm at work and can't view it - but this is a link I got from tarflies.

It's the promo ad for TAR 12. I'd guess its no longer than 90 seconds.

Apparently it has..... (and i can't wait to view this at home!)

Goth couple!
Lesbian ministers! (Seriously, TWELVE seasons to get a lesbian couple on?)
LA Blondes

I can't wait!

That's funny Kelda that we picked the same three couples. I hadn't looked at the bottom part of your message until I watched the YouTube ad. I was going to mention the goth couple, the lesbian ministers and the LA blondes. Do you find the LA blondes to be very reminiscent of Dustin and Kandace, the beauty queens?

The first show of Amazing Race is over and the first couple has been eliminated, Ari and Staella. They had the same problems with the donkey as did Nathan and Jennifer. It wouldn't move. However, Nathan and Jennifer were in 2nd place when it decided to stop and be stubborn. They finally got it going after everyone else had passed and came in 10th place. I am glad about that since they are one of my favorite three couples so far. At one point all of my favorite couples were in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and two of my favorite couples did come in 1st and 2nd. So who are my favorite teams so far? They are Kynt & Vyxsin (the Goths), Jennifer & Nathan (the Fighting Couple), and Rachel & TK (the Hippies).

I still like the cowboy look better, but seriously I have never really watched Dancing with the Stars except maybe a minute here and there. I used to not understand Amazing Race either. I found that it is the kind of show that you have to give all of your attention to. It is very fast paced so if you don't watch closely things can change dramatically. First place to last place to elimination is quite easy to do very quickly.

I am glad you have revived this topic. It is a good time to do so after the writers' strike and also when many new shows have either started or old ones have started production. The shows I watch regularly are Survivor, Two and A Half Men, The New Adventures of Old Christine, The Big Bang Theory, and Jericho. Jericho has even become a better show in my opinion. If I had more time to concentrate on Lost I would like it bettter. I have been watching The Captain, but I'm not sure what I think about it yet. Also, I definitely like Journeyman and I hope it comes back. Oh yeah, I still like Ghost Whisperer and Cold Case too.

I think they want to see how Jericho does before making more shows so they really have it listed as a mini series right now. You did hear how the fans got them to put it back on, didn't you? They sent tons of peanuts to CBS. Also I would add Amazing Race, but it is not on right now. I love Amazing Race!!!

The funny thing is Kelda I thought it was the stupidest show I had ever seen the first time I saw it. And then I got used to the characters and then started liking it. It almost reminds me a bit of Third Rock From The Sun. Do you know that one?

I plan to start watching The Tudors.

I have read and continue to read lots of Tudor history. I've heard from people I trust about how innaccurate and unhistorical the series is so that I won't be caught dead watching it, even though it has some good "names" in it.

Oh, I didn't know that.  I was stuck waiting at my daughter's school today for 2 hours and thought I'd watch a little Tudors on my iPhone, and wouldn't you know there was a naked scene within 5 minutes of the start of the episode, with all kinds of little tykes running around behind me.  I turned that off real fast!

Well, what I can remember that galled me the most was the way they screwed up the siblings of Henry VIII.

In historical reality, Henry had two sisters who survived to adulthood, an older sister named Margaret, and a younger sister named Mary. For diplomatic reasons, Margaret was sent off by her father, Henry VII, to marry the king of Scotland. Margaret's granddaughter was the hapless monarch known to history as Mary, Queen of Scots, whose son succeeded Elizabeth I on the English throne, so that it was from Margaret's marriage to James IV of Scotland that the house of Stuart ultimately derived its claim to the throne of England.

Meanwhile, for the usual diplomatic reasons Henry VIII essentially forced his younger sister, Mary, to marry the elderly king of France. Mary, meanwhile, fell in love with Henry's buddy Charles Brandon, duke of Suffolk. When Mary's French royal husband promptly died, she and Brandon married, initially without Henry's permission, though eventually he accepted their marriage. Mary and Charles had a daughter, Frances, who married a certain Henry Grey, who became duke of Suffolk by marrying Frances. Henry and Frances had a daughter, Jane, known to history as the unfortunate Lady Jane Grey, "the nine-day's queen of England."

I love Tudor period English history. Genealogy was politics, and vice versa!  ;D

I think I remember being told that in The Tudors, Henry's sisters got conflated into one, called Margaret, who was sent of to marry the king of Portugal?  :-\

Thank you for the historical info.  Very interesting!  Combining characters is a trick often used on TV, but I'm sure it is annoying if you know the real history.

That's the thing for me. I find the reality of Tudor history so exciting and dramatic enough as it is.

Anybody interested in more historically accurate dramatizations of the period should check out the old series, The Six Wives of Henry VIII, which ran on Masterpiece Theatre in the 1970s, and Elizabeth R, with Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth I, which also ran on Masterpiece Theatre. Both are available on DVD.

The actor who played Henry VIII gave, for me, the definitive screen portrayal of the king. I'm sure makeup helped, but in those days the British had a knack for casting actors who actually resembled--or could be made to resemble--the historical figures they were portraying, based on surviving portraits. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is a hottie, but I can't quite wrap my mind around the idea of him as Henry VIII. He's just not physically imposing enough.

I find the history of the British monarchy interesting in general, and as far back as elementary school used to check the biographies of the queens out of the library.  Now the trick is finding enough time in the day to watch any of these shows!  I am not sure if you are interested in Queen Victoria, but I did enjoy the book "Victoria's Daughters" a couple of years ago.

Well, I did read a very interesting book about Victoria's life with Prince Albert, but that was years ago, so long that I forget what the book was called.  :-\

Of course, Her Majesty, Mrs. Brown, with the incomparable Dame Judi Dench as Victoria, is a very good film, too.  :)

I haven't added anything here in a long time so I thought I would. First of all, the biggest upset for me concerning shows that got cancelled this past season is "Life On Mars." This was really a great show that could have made it if ABC would have simply shown it more. Instead they give it little chance by skipping the whole middle part of the season and did little advertising for it. The second show I would have liked to have seen stay around is "Worst Week." How does a show like "How I Met Your Mother" continue to stay on while a show that was really funny gets cancelled? Don't get me wrong "How I Met Your Mother" is ok, but is really nothing more than a third rate rip off of "Friends." It would have got cancelled last season if not because of two appearances by Britney Spears. Britney's appearances boosted the ratings and the show stayed on. However, Britney is not a regular cast member. As far as two of my three favorite reality shows go, the people who won on both "Survivor" and "The Amazing Race" were not my favorites, but they were also not my least favorites which is quite often the case. And now in a few weeks we will get to see the beginning of a new season of my other favorite reality show "Big Brother." If you have not watched this show before watch it. The social interaction is great. On top of that if you want to see even more of the reality of the people in the show watch "After Dark" on Showtime every night of the season. This shows a lot of what you will never get to see on the part CBS shows.

For the past few weeks I've been watching Mental. It was described in The New Yorker as a rip-off of E.R., but since I never watched E.R. in all the years of its long, long run, that doesn't bother me.   But I'll tell you what, Chris Vance, who stars in Mental and who is new to me--when he smiles, I get butterflies in my stomach.  ;D

I agree Jeff, Mental is a very good show. There are few shows like this that catch my attention, but I do really like this one.

Did you see it this week, Jack? Dr. Gallagher's boss (played by Annabella Sciorra) has a teenage daughter, and twice she said to her mother, "He's so hot!"

No I missed it this week. All I saw was a glimpse of it since it was during my trip to Chicago. I think I have seen all of the other episodes though.

By luck I noticed another episode was broadcast last week. At the end Annabella Sciorra caught Dr. Gallagher making out with some other (female) doctor in his office.  ;D

My current favorite show is Big Brother of course. Everything else is in reruns anyway. And I am for Jeff who of course ended up on the block. I just hope he wins POV. Ronnie is a snake.

I saw your big brother tread but since I dont get the US version I didn't comment - your big brother works differently from ours I'm sure.. our big brother is purely audience vote only based on the 2 people with the most nominations each week.

In yours they can win ammunity and stuff yes? That's what POV is?

This year i have watched about 2 hours of our big brother - I missed the opening night and the first few episodes after that and just ddnt know who anyone was! So just didn't connect at the satrt.. i ahve to say Ive read a lot more books that way!!

Yes your Big Brother is definitely different than ours. I don't think I would like yours as much since the audience vote would knock out some of the social interaction I like. POV (Power of Veto) happens after two people are put up on the block by the HOH (Head of Household). Also, remember that sometimes one of the people put up in not necessarily someone the HOH wants to get rid of. They are instead a pawn although sometimes that does not work well and they get voted out anyway. So after the two people are put up on the block there is a competition of some type. The person who wins that competition gets POV. That means they can choose to keep one of the two people who have been put up for eviction. Sometimes one of the two people who have been put up wins POV and takes themselves off such as Jeff did. When someone is taken off the HOH then picks someone else to be on the block for possible eviction. This is where the backdooring of someone often happens since that person they really want to get rid of is thrown up on the block and evicted. This is what I hope happens to Ronnie tonight. Anyway, after this, the household members vote for who they want to be evicted from the house. The next step is the HOH competition where a new HOH is chosen. The present HOH cannot compete or win the HOH two times in a row.

It's a great show though. It's kind of like The Amazing Race and Survivor in that you have to watch it to like it. You then get tangled up in it once you know the people. I didn't really watch it closely at all until last summer which was Big Brother 10. By the way, the people in the house are constantly being watched by the cameras, 24/7. They basically cannot do anything without being watched and filmed. For the people who are really into it they can subscribe to the 24 hour live feeds. Also, Showtime shows Big Brother After Dark which lasts for 3 hours every night. I just watch what CBS shows and every once in awhile I will tune in to Showtime for a little while. Unlike The Amazing Race and Survivor, Big Brother is being filmed live.
