Hopefully I haven't already posted this one. I heard it yesterday evening and this morning. It somehow makes a lot of sense to me right now plus I love the song anyway.

A Better Man by Clint Black

What do you say when it's over
I don't know if I should say anything at all
One day we're rollin' in the clover
Next thing you know we take the fall

Still, I think about the years since I first met you
And the way it might have been without you here
And I don't know if words from me can still upset you
But I've just gotta make this memory stand clear

I know I'm leavin' here a better man
For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before, now I think I can
And I'm leavin here a better man

I guess I always knew I couldn't hold you
But I'd never be the one to set you free
Just like some old nursery rhyme your mama told you
You still believe in some old meant-to-be

Still I'm leavin' here a better man
For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before, now I think I can
And I'm leavin' here a better man

Yes I'm leavin' here a better man
For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before, now I know I can
And I'm leavin' here a better man

Yes I'm leavin' here a better man

YAY! Susie!
I love that song!
I love the indigo girls too.
I used to see them around town before they got real big.
They still pop in at Eddies attic and smiths old bar I hear. ;D

Here's another great one:

The Power of Two

Now the parking lot is empty
Everyones gone someplace
I pick you up and in the trunk Ive packed
A cooler and a 2-day suitcase
Cause theres a place we like to drive
Way out in the country
Five miles out of the city limit were singing
And your hands upon my knee

So were okay
Were fine
Baby Im here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
Im stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love thats true
Multiply life by the power of two

You know the things that I am afraid of
Im not afraid to tell
And if we ever leave a legacy
Its that we loved each other well
Cause Ive seen the shadows of so many people
Trying on the treasures of youth
But a road that fancy and fast
Ends in a fatal crash
And Im glad we got off
To tell you the truth

Cause were okay
Were fine
Baby Im here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
Im stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love thats true
Multiply life by the power of two

All the shiny little trinkets of temptation
(make new friends)
Something new instead of something old
(but keep the old)
All you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface
(but remember what is gold)
And its fools gold
(what is gold)
Fools gold
(what is gold)
Fools gold

Now were talking about a difficult thing
And your eyes are getting wet
I took us for better and I took us for worse
Dont you ever forget it
Now the steel bars between me and a promise
Suddenly bend with ease
The closer Im bound in love to you
The closer I am to free

So were okay
Were fine
Baby Im here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
Im stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love thats true
Multiply life by the power of two

For me, the ultimate song of longing ...

Everything I Own
by Bread

You sheltered me from harm.
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you

I would give anything I own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything I own,
Just to have you back again.

You taught me how to love,
What its of, what its of.
You never said too much,
But still you showed the way,
And I knew from watching you.
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that cant let go.

I would give anything I own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again.

Is there someone you know,
Youre loving them so,
But taking them all for granted.
You may lose them one day,
Someone takes them away,
And they dont hear the words you long to say

I would give anything I own,
Give up me life, my heart, my home.
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again.
Oh Lord,
That song makes me weep everytime I hear it or read the lyrics.
It fits with Ennis and Jack so much!
I think it is what Ennis would say.

"Saint Paul had his Epiphany on the road to Damascus, Mine was on Brokeback Mountain"

I heard this song for the first time in YEARS the other day.
It made me think of Lureen.

Saw your picture on a poster in a cafe out in Phoenix;
Guess you're still the sweet heart of the rodeo.
As for me and little Casey, we still make the circuit,
In a one-horse trailer and a mobile home.
And she still asks about you all the time,
And I guess we never even cross your mind

But oh sometimes I think about you,
And the way you used to ride out,
In your rhinestones and your sequins,
With the sunlight on your hair.
And, oh, the crowd will always love you,
But as for me, I've come to know.
Everything that glitters is not gold.

Well old Red he's getting older,
And last Saturday he stumbled.
But you know I just can't bear to let him go.
Little Casey, she's still growing,
And she's started asking questions,
And there's certain things a man just doesn't know.
Her birthday came and you never even called:
I guess we never cross your mind at all.

But oh sometimes I think about you,
And the way you used to ride out,
In your rhinestones and your sequins,
With the sunlight on your hair.
And, oh, the crowd will always love you,
But as for me, I've come to know.
Everything that glitters is not gold.

Everybody said you'd make it big someday,
And I guess that we were only in your way,
But someday I'm sure your gonna know the cost.
'Cos for everything you win there's something lost.

But oh sometimes I think about you,
And the way you used to ride out,
In your rhinestones and your sequins,
With the sunlight on your hair.
And, oh, the crowd will always love you,
But as for me, I've come to know.
Everything that glitters is not gold.

Here's the lyrics to a song that just for some reason entered my mind.

We May Never Pass This Way Again by Seals and Crofts

Life, so they say, is but a game and we let it slip away.
Love, like the Autumn sun, should be dyin' but it's only just begun.
Like the twilight in the road up ahead, they don't see just where we're goin'.
And all the secrets in the Universe, whisper in our ears
And all the years will come and go, take us up, always up.
We may never pass this way again.
We may never pass this way again.
We may never pass this way again.

Dreams, so they say, are for the fools and they let 'em drift away.
Peace, like the silent dove, should be flyin' but it's only just begun.
Like Columbus in the olden days, we must gather all our courage.
Sail our ships out on the open sea. Cast away our fears
And all the years will come and go, and take us up, always up.
We may never pass this way again.
We may never pass this way again.
We may never pass this way again.

So, I wanna laugh while the laughin' is easy. I wanna cry if it makes it worthwhile.
We may never pass this way again, that's why I want it with you.
'Cause, you make me feel like I'm more than a friend.
Like I'm the journey and you're the journey's end.
We may never pass this way again, that's why I want it with you, baby.

We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again.
We may never pass this way again. We may never pass this way again.

And here's another song I was thinking about the other day and then I heard it playing in some store I was in.

Only Love Can Break A Heart by Neil Young

When you were young
and on your own
How did it feel
to be alone?
I was always thinking
of games that I was playing.
Trying to make
the best of my time.

But only love
can break your heart
Try to be sure
right from the start
Yes only love
can break your heart
What if your world
should fall apart?

I have a friend
I've never seen
He hides his head
inside a dream
Someone should call him
and see if he can come out.
Try to lose
the down that he's found.

But only love
can break your heart
Try to be sure
right from the start
Yes only love
can break your heart
What if your world
should fall apart?

I have a friend
I've never seen
He hides his head
inside a dream
Yes, only love
can break your heart
Yes, only love
can break your heart

This CD, "Duets" by Reba McEntire, was in my CD player in the car. I actually had not listened to it in awhile although I used to listen to it all the time. This is a song that I never paid a lot of attention to. It seemed that I was hearing it for the first time when I paid attention to the words.

These Broken Hearts by Reba McEntire and Vince Gill

Baby, let's just say farewell
Baby, let's just both give in
No, it's not too hard to tell
The walls are closin' in

Oh, it's time to say goodbye
And put this in the past
Even though I know we tried
To save the best for last

I guess nothin' stays the same
Still the memories remain
We need all the sweet forgiveness we can find
There's a sadness in the wind
Oh, I wish you well my friend
Only time will mend these broken hearts again

I don't know what's left to say
I don't know where we went wrong
When I watch you walk away
I'll miss you when you're gone

Baby, shed a tear for me
And I'll shed a tear for you
Oh, let's set this heartache free
And in time we'll make it through, well

I guess nothin' stays the same
Still the memories remain
We need all the sweet forgiveness we can find
There's a sadness in the wind
Oh, I wish you well my friend
Only time will mend these broken hearts again

There's a sadness in the wind
Oh, I wish you well my friend
Only time will mend these broken hearts again

Here is another song I love:

As If by Sara Evans

Ooh yeah

I love the way you wear those worn out blue jeans
Walkin' all around in the big sunshine
Baby let me believe that you're perfect
At least for a little while

You don't have to tell me what you're thinkin'
You can keep all that to yourself
Baby we got such a good thing going
Don't show me that you're someone else

{Chorus}
Cause I'm acting as if
this blue sky's never gonna rain down on me
I'm telling myself
This true love's never gonna leave me lonely
Unless there's something I've missed I'm acting as if

We don't have to have that conversation
Baby don't ya think it's goin' fine
We don't need to send out invitations
To tell the world that you're mine

{Chorus}
Cause I'm acting as if
this blue sky's never gonna rain down on me

I'm telling myself
This true love's never gonna leave me lonely
Unless there's something I've missed I'm acting as if

As if your sweet kiss is never gonna fade away
And the way you look at me will never change

Cause I love the way you wear those worn out blue jeans,
Walkin' all around in the big sunshine

Cause I'm acting as if
this blue sky's never gonna rain down on me
I'm telling myself
This true love's never gonna leave me lonely

I'm acting as if
this blue sky's never gonna rain down on me
I'm telling myself
This true love's never gonna leave me lonely

Unless there's something I've missed
Unless there's something I've missed
I'm acting as if

Oooh yeah

Oh I'm acting as if
