The 10 Best T Shirt-Worthy Phrases of 2007
« on: December 22, 2007, 09:53:10 pm »

Here are Time magazine's 10 Best T Shirt-Worthy Phrases of 2007. What's your favourite?

Maybe you favourite phrase of 2007 isn't included in Time's selection? Tell us what it is!

#1 "Don't tase me, Bro" - Andrew Meyer, a University of Florida student whose outburst during a John Kerry speech prompted campus police to subdue the undergraduate with a taser; he later apologised for his "failure to act calmly."

#2 "I have a wide stance" - Larry Craig, Idaho Senator, in an oft quoted but inaccurate phrase that stems from the police report summarising why he said his foot may have touched a cop's in an adjacent bathroom stall.

#3 "Dumbledore is gay" - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter creator, upon being asked whether Harry's headmaster at Hogwarts ever finds true love.

#4 "Put your big-girl panties on" - Margaret Spellings, U.S. Education Secretary, to White House deputy press secretary, Dana Perino, when she took over for her ailing boss, Tony Snow.

#5 "I don't know who I am but they're after me" - Karl Rove, presidential aide, likening himself to Moby Dick and Grendel in being hounded by critics who believe he controls George W. Bush.

#6 "Thanks for the question, you little jerk" - John McCain, presidential hopeful, responding jokingly to a high schooler's comment that at 71, McCain might be too old for the White House.

#7 "I take a bath every day" - The Rev. Al Sharpton, former White House contender, after Senator Joe Biden called Barack Obama the first black presidential candidate who is "bright and clean."

#8 "People are at least as smart as goats, maybe not as agile" - Trent Lott, Mississippi Senator, on why a border fence won't be enough to stop illegal immigration.

#9 "I have lived the American dream" - Alberto Gonzales, the first Hispanic to serve as U.S. Attorney General, who resigned without explanation amid allegations of perjury.

#10 "I want to be like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and John Lennon, but I want to stay alive!" - Madonna, pop icon, during a radio interview, on how she wants her art and philanthropy to inspire people.

I voted for "Other."

My favourite quote from 2007 didn't make it to Time's 10 Best T Shirt-Worthy Phrases, but it did make it to another of Time's end-of-year lists, the 10 Best Quotes . . .

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals, like in your country" - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranian President, during a Q&A at New York City's Columbia University.

I like this one:

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

She may have said it this year, but she's not the first to say it. For years I've had a plaque with the saying on it -- given me by a coach.  ;D

I've also learned that just because I think it's a good saying -- to keep it to myself because other people don't appreciate it.  :-\ :P :D

This phrase is the title of a hilarious book by Roz Van Meter and I have seen this phrase on everything from coffee mugs to baby bibbs.  I have this magnet on my fridge....

Yes, he did, Shasta. It was reported in the media earlier this year. As were the unforgettable words of Nigeria's Anglican Bishop Peter Akinola, who compared homosexuality to having sex with a baboon! A true Christian gentleman! NOT!!!  >:(
