This is another quote that stood out for me in 2007, from the charming (not!) Philip Ruddock, who was Australia's Attorney General at the time (he was voted out of office last month), as reported in the press earlier this year.

The homophobic ex Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard, was voted out of office last month. No wonder, after making pronouncements such as this, as quoted in the press earlier this year.

My cartoons act as excellent therapy for me. Previously, I would read about the inane, vacuous, hateful pronouncements of some brainless politician or clergyman and get angry and upset about it. Now, however, when I draw a cartoon in response to their spiteful, homophobic ravings,  I find that in so doing, a lot of my anger is defused and dissipated. In fact, the cartoon seems to empower me and I feel these despicable hate-mongers are not getting away with their spite and venom unopposed.
