Beneath The Cedar Tree

Here is a little tale I wrote free verse...
Beneath The Cedar Tree
I really can not recall how I got here
I remember falling asleep but
I don’t remember leaving…
or putting on my old coat and boots
afore doing so.
There is a nimbleness to my step,
a freedom to my gait,
a strength to my once weary spine…
I haven’t felt so spry since I was a boy
some decades ago.
I am looking about me,
taking in the surrounding trees,
the gentle curves of the low rolling hills…
All is hushed on this narrow stony lane
in this curious land.
I begin to wonder where I am headed;
I look as far ahead as my eyes can see,
the Sun sits behind another hill of green…
and then She peeks and beckons;
I follow without question.
I feel my wrist for the bulge of my watch
I must have left it behind
I wonder which morn hour this is…
The limits of time mean naught in this land,
as I’ll later discover.
I whistle a jolly melody to alter the silence
but somehow, I cannot hear the tune;
I swiftly learn that I must listen instead…
that is when I hear it, a faint rustling nearby
beneath a cedar tree.
That is the moment when I spot him
leaning against the giant tree, his head low;
his eyes shielded by the tip of his hat…
I can not help but stop in my tracks
and watch him in awe.
I have waited for this day forever it seems;
now I understand where I am
and why I am passing this way…
I take a step forward and rouse him
from his calm slumber.
Each ray of the Sun beckoned, but
it was your soul calling me,
drawing me close to this quiet spot…
to this place where you stand in wait,
sleeping on your feet.
How I have longed to see your face,
to feel your warmth, your fierce embrace.
I prayed and cried and begged for a little time
to say I’m sorry for the way we parted…
but mostly to say I love you.
I do not know if I speak the words
or just think them, but I see he hears them,
maybe even afore I do… he stands before me...
he clasps my hands in both of his..
my spirit sings.
I hear his voice, soft whispers in my ear
I see his bright smile, feel him close
I take in his warm scent of trees and mountain air…
here, in this curious land, he has waited…
and it becomes clear… we were never parted.

Oh Milli - that's lovely beyond words.
You're something else, you know that? A Bettermost treasure.
Thanks, as always, for sharing.
