thirtysomething...
« on: February 03, 2008, 10:55:53 am »
I debated about whether to start the thread or not... I certainly don't think of age as divisive, but having just entered the 30 something decade bracket, it in interesting to reflect on the first 10 years of my life, the second 10 years, etc. and certainly, exciting to look towards future decades...

As a child, teenager, I definitely felt like I would have life figured out by this age!

Ha ha!

I definitely don't.  I am not sure if that just means I am adult, or if it because I don't have a 'normal' life - i.e. I am not married, settled down, with kids, nor do I have any immediate plans to do any of those things.

That's enough blabbing for now, I think.

BTW - did anyone ever watch the thirtysomething tv show?  (I didn't.)

I vaguely recall thirtysomething but can't really remember much about it.

Well - I have 4 years to go before I get into this bracker but my view is... what IS normal these days? I don' think there is necessarily such a thing.. if we are happy in our lives the way they are, even if we are still aspiring for something else, I think thats great.

Enjoy life for what you can make it I say, and dont think of what could of been or might have been but what you want now & in the future that you can really aspire to and aren't just pie in the sky dreams that aren't ever going to happen.

Excellent points Kelda!

But I overthink many many many things - including reflections on my own life... and I sort of like thinking of life in chapters (is that weird?)... So it is exciting, and interesting, for me to think about a new 'chapter' of my life.  AND it's exciting to think that it can be whatever I want it to be, that it doesn't have to be what I thought it would be...

am I making sense?

I think what I am getting at, is that getting older is exciting, not scary... at least that is how I feel about it right now...

I loved thirtysomething (especially Ken Olin).  It was basically a show about two married couples and their three single friends and their work and family relationships.  The married friends had their issues and the single ones had issues, too.  I thought it was a great show.

Wow, I haven't thought about it in years.  It had a great cast.  Ken Olin's real-life wife was in it, too, but she was married to the guy who played his business partner in the show.  I'd stay home to watch it.  Thanks for the memories.  :)

Fran (now fiftysomething)  :(

Ken Olin's wife is Lena Olin?  (or no, maybe I am wrong...)  I'll wikipedia it.

(I guess they are no relation... Lena Olin is married to film director Lasse Hallström (who did Casanova, which Lena was also in)

Anyhoo, with that review Fran, maybe I will add the show to my [very long] netflix queue!

Ken Olin is married to Patricia Wettig.

Here's a photo of both of them from 2004:

I never would have known that was him, but she looks great.

That is very interesting - it is such a small world.  I initially thought [many years ago] that Lena Olin was married to Ken Olin because they worked together on the television series Alias.  But of course, Lena Olin was not married to Ken Olin, rather Lasse Hallstrom, and the two of them would eventually work with Heath in Casanova.  Patricia Wettig also had a stint (as a psychiatrist/psychologist) on Alias... now, we just need a way to tie Patricia Wettig and Ken Olin to Heath.  Oh wait - I have spent as much time watching Alias as I have watching Brokeback Mountain and thinking about Heath!

And to stay 'on topic' with my own thread, I wonder what new obsessions (or all encompassing activities) I will discover in my thirties?

Yes, my current position ends this summer.  I don't have the next position lined up just yet - but I will keep you posted!
