A Moment of Silence (for Heath and all of us)
« on: February 10, 2008, 07:06:07 pm »
Please join the BetterMost community in a moment of silence at 3:00 PM ET, this Tuesday, February 12

Hi folks -

I'm not around here much these days, but have been following the developments since Heath Ledger's passing.  Regardless of the divergent opinions expressed about his death, each of us has felt a unique connection with and gratitude toward Heath and what he brought into our lives via Ennis Del Mar.

So I am suggesting that we do something born out of that sentiment.  There is tremendous power in thought and feeling.  To have the intention of sending peaceful, loving, powerful vibrations to the soul of Heath Ledger, wherever you believe him to be, is to offer real comfort and solace to someone who is no doubt suffering from confusion, loss and remorse, as we ourselves have.

Everyone is invited to join in a collective moment of silence with the very specific intent of sending those energetic, compassionate thoughts and feelings exactly where they belong (Heath, his family, friends...). We know he passed away sometime on Tuesday, January 22; exactly when is not known, but probably sometime between noon and 3:00 PM.

This Tuesday will be the 3-week anniversary, so this is an invitation to observe a moment of silence at 3:00 PM ET, this Tuesday, February 12.  You can be on-line, at home, at work - just a simple moment of silence, collectively observed.  Feel free to spend that time in silent contemplation, thought, prayer, meditation... however you choose to create that peaceful intention, and send it to whomever you feel needs it, including yourself.

Another idea, looking a bit further ahead, is to repeat the moment on Heath's birthday. That's less than two months from now, and I'm sure a lot of us will be thinking about him on that day. Maybe a chat would be in order that day, too.

(This idea has been put together with the great input of various moderators, who offered wonderful suggestions, some of which have been quoted directly above - thanks).

Thanks for this beautiful idea, Celeste.  It's great to see you back here, Friend.   :-*

Here's a lovely mandala you posted way back when.  It may help us get in the mood.  :)

Yap, having you here is a silver lining.  :-*  It's a great idea.  My moment of silence may have to be internal only - Mini-Meno and I are just settling into French class at 3pm on Tuesdays, with kids flying and rolling around us.  Not silent, but Heath would probably have enjoyed the scene.  :)  And some articles say his mother is/was a French teacher.

I find it a nice idea.I knew the news, for the timetable difference, very late at night this January 22th.I'll see what time is 3:00 ET in Spain-if someone can tell it to me,I'm be very grateful-and I'll join to it;it'll be good to meditate about everything has passed and will pass in our respective lives at the same time.I'm sure Heath would have enjoyed this. :)

I'll be at a Neil Young concert tomorrow evening. I don't know if 'Old Man' will be on the playlist, but if it is, I'll know who I'll be thinking of.

This song was played at the memorial service in Perth.

I just remembered that the first time you became more than a screen name to me, Truman, was when Celeste told me that you and she were friends.  That's what made me pay attention to you, and now look!  You've broken bread with my mother, sister, and husband.  :-* to Truman.  :-* to Celeste.  :-* to all healing Brokies.

Hey Birthday Buddy -

I suck at the time translation thing - Leslie and others seem to have it mastered.  Here's what I can confirm:

Date:  Tuesday, February 12
Time: 3:00 PM ET (USA), which is also 1500 ET (USA)

One resource I've used, for anyone translating this for their local region, is http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/.  I'm sure others can suggest good ones as well.

I know our planet, and all the souls on it, will benefit from even just this moment.

I too think it's a wonderful idea.  Just a quick wave to everyone on the East coast of the USA ;D
Since Heaths B-day and my Grandmom's B-day are on the 4th of April (a Tuesday this year) I'll be sending up a prayer for the both of them.

This may sound weird or maybe just wishfull thinking, but I believe that even when the physical body is gone the soul still lingers around to help and guide their loved ones. I swear there have been a few times that my Grammy has helped me through some very tough decisions, or maybe it's just intuition. It's like a feeling you get that something isn't right, and sometimes things just "fall" into place to make a good thing even better.
I know this sounds sappy but I believe in the afterlife.

Neil Young - Old Man - Live at Massey Hall
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vef03k5i8VI

Thanks for the video, John.  Here are the lyrics:

"Old Man"

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

So there will be no talking/posting on Bettermost at this time period, I suppose.  Sounds like a good idea. Too bad, there's no bell to ring on Bettermost at 3EST. ..  I guess BBM radio can't do something to this effect?? I always thought the music used in PLATOON was so emotional  in creating a feeling of a terrible terrible sense of loss. The title is ADAGIO FOR STRINGS by Samuel Barber.

This means for continental Europe 9pm (21:00) and 8pm for the UK (20:00), correct? How long should the moment of silence be?

I always get goose bumps when I listen to G. Allegri's "Miserere" (the 1963 version with soloist Roy Goodman). Sooo beautiful. So heavenly...  :'(

I think of a 'moment' as at least a minute, and then for however long you wish...  I don't know that a moment in time correlates specifically to the clock.

Here's a web site that converts the time for you:  http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

I know, I know Celeste! But since it was suggested that during that moment of silence nobody posts, I asked, so that Brokies would know when they'd be 'allowed' to post again..  :-\

Hmmmmm - good question.  I'd say a moment on-line will be a minute?  I didn't think about that really, so whatever y'all think is best...

RodneyWY played that at our Memorial service for Heath and Jackie in Denver the other day.  It's a deep piece.  And trust me: if you're in the middle of a string orchestra playing it, OMG!!

And Neil Young?  Gawd, I can hardly listen to any ballad of his without tearing up — and that's under good circumstances . . .

Kd, you could make a request on the Bettermost Radio thread.

Unfortunately the radio tie-in isn't possible today.  It's a great idea, and I know Eric , our BBM Radio guru, will look into future opportunities.

This is a great idea. Thank you for thinking of it. Ironically enough I just discovered this thread about 5 minutes ago and it is now 10 minutes until 3:00pm EST. Things like that make me wonder about the meaning of a lot of things. I will definitely join in the moment of silence.

Wow. At first it felt a bit awkward, and then it became very emotional.  :'( :'( :'(

I played one of Heath's favorite songs instead.

We miss you so much, Heath, I hope you realise how much we love you for what you gave us...

It was such a gift to bond with Heath and all of you for a few minutes.  It felt very powerful.  Thank you again, Celeste.  :-*

I logged on into chat, only to be quiet together with other Brokies. Maybe this sounds silly and contradictorily, but to me it made perfect sense.
I was glad to see Janice and Joe Ann in there.

I went on little walk with my cats keeping me company - Brokie and Sayif (meaning 'summer'). Nobody but me around. It is probably too cold outside. But I felt warm and apeased, thinking about Heath's wake and the beautiful sunset and all the smiling people. I was thinking about his loved ones and also Jake. I hope he has someone to keep him warm and to comfort him.

Celeste,

Thanks so much for your most thoughtful idea.  Have read all the messages sitting here alone and in silence and letting the tears roll down across my cheeks.  As a part of the grieving I have witnessed too much disagreement, scorn and hate expressed at times.  Thankfully, that's not the case here as much and I wish everyone peace, but especially for Heath's soul, to his family, loved ones, and friends.

This has been a lovely gesture and hopefully carries as much healing power and understanding as attempted by Mrs. John Twist when placing her hand on a grieving Ennis' shoulder in the movie.

Thanks again.

Earlier when I said we'd be at French class, I forgot that 3pm ET is noon PT.  So I was actually at an event with The Parrot Lady and her parrots.  She had three South American parrots who interacted with the kids and did stuff, as she told us about the rain forest.

After a while she said something like, "And now, for something really special, I will bring out our only Australian parrot!"  Her saying "Australian," reminded me to check the time.  It was two minutes to Moment of Silence.  So, sitting there, with kids and parrots and moms, I had my moment with you all.  Love, Clarissa

I read a couple of prayers for Heath while I sat quietly at my desk.

thanks for the video and the words.

I've already seen the playlist, Old Man isn't on it. But I'm sure I'll be thinking of Heath anyway. It's difficult not to....

HE DID, HE DID!! Neil Young apparently changed the playlist and suddenly there it was, solo, just him, his guitar and harmonica. I was fighting back the tears. I'm sure Heath did this!

It was a very special moment during an absolutely fantastic concert!

Oh wow, that's amazing, Fabienne. Thank you for sharing this.

Old Man has always been one of my favorite Neil Young songs. That, and Cinnamon Girl.

Cinnamon Girl was one of the encores. It was awesome. I'm on a Neil-high!

Neil Young really is an excellent musician and is great in concert.  I saw him years and years ago, and it still stands out as a fantastic performance in my memory.

Thanks for the info Fabienne! :)
