The playlist on Heath's funeral unraveled...
« on: February 11, 2008, 03:41:07 pm »
This was apparently the 'play list' of Heath's funeral...

What an amazing list of songs...

"These Days" - Powderfinger
"Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd
"Superstition" - Stevie Wonder
"Times Are A-Changin'" - Bob Dylan
"Seven Nation Army" - White Stripes
"The Past and Pending" - The Shins
"Here Comes the Sun" - The Beatles
"Happy Ever After" - Ben Harper
"1979" - Smashing Pumpkins
"Old Man" - Neil Young
"Come Together" - The Beatles

Old Man just happens to be one of my all-time favourite songs. I also heard it in "Lords of Dogtown" and it makes me smile. It probably also has a meaning because of Heath's Old Man River tattoo.

Come Together - The Beatles:
"Got to be a joker he just do what he please."

Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles:
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Wish you were here - Pink Floyd:
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

These Days - Powder Finger:

This life well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned

Do you have any special memories associated with any of these songs?

Some of the songs I am either unfamilar with or did not know that was their name, but the ones I do:

"Wish You Were Here" takes me back to college days, vinyl and controlled substances.

"Superstition" I have always loved, and their is a version by the late Stevie Ray Vaughn I am particularily fond of. In the video Stevie Wonder appears at the end with a black cat, he strokes it and says: "Here kitty, kitty"

Times they are A-changin': I adopted that song as a personal anthem back 20 years ago, and the times did change, and now I am in the target group I was aiming those words at, but it is cool. Things are changin' and for the better in large part. Right now anyway.

The Past and Pending: I have no idea about but remember Jake had them on Saturday Night Live as his musical guest. I guess the host picks them.

Old Man: I can remember being 24 and singing that song and feeling like I was just the shit. Turns out I was....

ComeTogether: So cool, because that is what they were doing, what we were doing , coming together, over Heath.

I guess it would depend on who picked out the music.  It may not necessarily be Heath's fav tunes, but someone else's who associated them with Heath or want to associate them with Heath.

That doesn't take away that it's an amazing list of songs.  :D

I do think it was Heath's choice. He was very much into music and must've talked about it a lot with friends and family. I would know exactly what to play for one of my family members or even friends (please don't let that happen for a LONG, LONG time...  :'()

"1979" - Smashing Pumpkins

Heath's date of birth was 4 April, 1979.
Former IMDb Name: True Oracle of Phoenix / TOoP (I pronounce it "too - op") / " in fire forged,  from ash reborn" / Currently: GeorgeObliqueStrokeXR40

I was at the Neil Young concert last night in Antwerp, Belgium.

I saw the playlist of the first concert in Antwerp on Monday and no Old Man...Well, I guess it would have been too much of a coincidence if he did play that song, just on the night we were having this moment of silence.

So I wasn't expecting it yesterday but then suddenly there it was....just him, his guitar and harmonica. I was fighting back the tears. I'm sure Heath did this!

It was a very special moment during an absolutely fantastic concert!

Oh my God, that's amazing! So he actually sang it when it wasn't on the play list? God, that's beautiful.

I love that song to death, have always loved it, and to now have it linked with Heath makes it even more amazing and sad at the same time. I think it's a song that I most associate with Heath's character in Monster's Ball.

Mel, what a great idea for a thread!!!!!

"These Days" by the Aussie band Powderfinger

It's coming round again
The slowly creeping hand
Of time and its command
Soon enough it comes
and settles in its place
Its shadow in my face
Puts pressure in my day

This life well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned

It's coming round again
The slowly creeping hand
Of time and its demands
It settles in its place
Its shadow in my face
Undignified and lame

This life well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned
Control well it's slipping right through my hands
These days turned out nothing like I had planned

Soon enough it comes
Soon enough it comes
To tie us down
