As Jack and Ennis spent great part of their time up in the mountain checking out and sending signals to each other,these words can be seen as a further step in this knowledge.Further and greater because their intention then was already to know for sure how many "possibilities" they had with the other.A kind of innuendo to know,specially in Jack's case, if they could make some kind of deeper,and more intim,approachment.IMO.
I like your silences,quiet conversations of evident sensations,where our words are lifeĀ“s tinsels.
The lost illusions are the found truths.
