I am so jealous, wyomen!! But...I'll get over it! Let's see, how about Bluebird Songs and Whiskey Springs? Or just Whiskey Springs? How about Harmonica Haven? Happy Jack Junction? (Happy Jack Road is not far from there, no?) Low-Startle-Point Ranch?? Tent Scene Five? OR 17--just 17? Ennis's Acres?

How about Reunion Ranch or Reunion Station??

Thank you for asking us...this is so exciting!!

The Cow and Calf Operation

Hay, that's great, Tru...and of course The Sweet Life, which follows the logic, or you could do The Sweet Life, A Little Cow & Calf Operation but that would be a mighty challenge for a wrought-iron gate too. TSL,LC&CO for short?? The Sweetwater River is not far away, so it would make sense from a non-Brokie standpoint.

Or on another tack, how about Goin for Brokie? Maybe not subtle enuff for that area of Wyoming, but Annie Proulx's in Centennial so hopefully it's an elightened pocket of the state.

For what it's worth, here's my point of view... if there really is a Sweetwater River nearby, then I quite like "Sweet Life Ranch."  It's concise and to the point... and doesn't seem too terribly long for sign.  It represents a lovely Brokie ideal while also being relevant to your location.

he wanted to build a two story house on a piece of property that was big enough he could piss from the upstairs window and no one could see. I think this place will be big enough!

(Maybe I shouldn't have shared that  ::))

I don't know why not! At my house, I have no curtains on any of the windows. And, I don't need any. That to me defines freedom. But I'd like to go farther. I'd like to go all the way to Wyoming! And that's why I'm looking at a property on Upper Norwood Road!!

Where is Upper Norwood Road? And until you mentioned it I didn't realize that the house in town has shades and blinds on all the windows. I guess I have never had a place where I wasn't nervous about the neighbor's looking in. And think of all the money I can save on window treatments! ;D

I wouldn't be worried about the neighbors! I would be worried about the boogerbears out there in the woods...

Funny story! One of my cousins (not the bad one) built a fancy cabin up by my place. She insisted on paddle type door handles on all the doors. After they were put in her husband pointed out that it would be really easy for a bear to open the door. She now has round door handles! ::)

LOL well the last thing you need is a bear coming in for breakfast!  :o

With the drought they have been having up there the last few years the bears have been "visiting" and I understand that a mountain lion has been seen in the area. The bad cousin insists on putting lights all around her place. So much for the night sky! Won't effect me! So there!

well that is why you move to the country....to pretend you are still in the city... ::) ::)

I did run into a little problem this week. I was getting some input on things I needed for the new place. I asked a friend at work that has a place up in the mountains about what problems he had run into. He mentioned it to a friend and on and on. Now this place I was trying to keep on the down low is the talk of work. I am getting requests from people that want to stay up there for hunting and snowmobiling!

Possible new name:

It's my place and I don't want to share it!

Unless I can find me one of them "fishing buddies"!

so......to come fishing they gonna have to 'put out'????????

It's 176, but that isn't allot around here. We don't have the growing season that most places have so it wouldn't produce what you could down lower or down south.

I had a friend when I was young that said he wanted to build a two story house on a piece of property that was big enough he could piss from the upstairs window and no one could see. I think this place will be big enough!

It looks like the Big Horns have gotten 2 more inches of snow this week. Powder River Pass is at 41 inches now and they are showing 7 feet of snow at the Ranch. I am heading down there next week to spend a few days and get some ideas on where to start building.

Um, I think you can plan to start building wherever you might see the snow cover thinning just slightly!! But snow and rain are good things, right?!?!

Heck! I never looked at this thread 'cause I thought it was just a game, but it's for real!  :D

Has a decision on a name been made?

Did you think about naming it after Shadow? Shadow's Retreat? Black Dog Ranch? Something like that?

I presently live in a city apartment in Sydney, but have fantasies about retiring to a small country property up the coast. It would only be about 5 acres. Nothing too big. Something manageable for me in my dotage.

I intend naming the house Cherry Cake Cottage   and having that name inscribed on a plaque by the door.

Reading this thread, however, has given me a new idea. Now I'm thinking about naming the whole property, not just the house.

How does Cherry Cake Homestead sound, with a sign at the gate, rather than on the front porch?

If you like the name, Dana, you are welcome to take it for your place in Wyoming. After all, my place will be half a world away in Australia.

I like the way Cherry Cake Cottage sounds....and I think it would do for the whole property...People in town would say "Oh Cherry Cake Cottage belongs to Kerry" and everyone will think of the entire place..not just the building..

I like the "Cherry Cake Homestead" idea! I really like the "homestead" idea instead of "ranch"!

And the naming after Shadow would cause a problem! I just can't see "Old lazy black dog that can be a pain in the ass Ranch" fitting over the gate!

I would be tickled pink if you chose Cherry Cake Homestead as the name for your ranch, Dana.  :D

And it would be the only one, 'cause Jess has convinced me to go with my first instinct for my place and name it Cherry Cake Cottage:D

Guess it is time for me update the goings on at The Ranch. In May I started to see a friend on a much more intimate level. To put it simply we have been a couple since then. As a matter of fact he showed up at the Roundup in the Big Horn Mountains in June. I didn't introduce him but it was nice having him stop in. He is a little shy of the internet. But I did notice that someone did catch him in one picture. I am glad that he caught someone else's eye.

We were both gainfully unemployed this summer so we did what any unemployed couple would do, traveled, shopped and built the guest cabin for the ranch. It is done but now that we are both working it has been hard to get up there. The cabin is two stories and a combined square footage of about 1200. Every member of my family have gone up to give their opinions of the finished product but other than the final inspection with the contractor we have only spent one weekend there so far. And there isn't any furniture yet! The plan now is a new barn and fencing then build the main house.

And we have not decided on a name yet. Before the cabin was built we wanted to keep the property unmarked. Right now we have a green metal gate and a mailbox with the rural route number on it. But now that we can have guests we should make it a little more stylish. And the fact that all the relatives know where it is and that "NO" they can't build a cabin there I think it is safe to mark our territory!

Oh I don't know if I mentioned what we did for the guest cabin. It is above a small pond with a waterfall, in the pine trees and out of sight! It is a very  private spot. The main house will be out in the open next to an aspen grove but the cabin we wanted away from prying eyes! ::)

So I guess we better get busy on that name and the main house if they are going to be ready for the reception! ;)

WHAT?

You've met someone??!! and built a CABIN!!?

My you been a busy busy boy....

Actually, my cousin sent me these pics without explanation. But from the look of the trees I would say that these guys are on one of those big game farms they have down in Texas. We don't have foliage like that up here! ;)

oh I see....you blaming on Texas?  >:(

Congratulations to you and your partner, Dana. It's always nice to hear when two people meet-up and start a life together. I wish you both many, many happy years together. And what a beautifully romantic setting you have there on your ranch. An out-of-sight cabin in a pine forest by a waterfall sounds like heaven to me.  :D

THERE AND BACK AGAIN! ;D

Actually we just spent the last two weeks at The Ranch and the problem of naming the ranch has been solved for me. The people on the property next to mine are building a new entrance into their place. So they are going in our gate and cutting across the field to their pasture. They are nice people so we aren't going to say anything but they did put a big sign up that has their family name and all of their first names at my front gate. So for now I am living on the "Anderson's Place". Got people all sorts of confused!

Got me confused too! Your neighbors need to get their own entrance!! And put their signs on it!!

Until the ground thaws they can't get the new gate in. And I kind of like the confusion the sign causes!

And that is Shadow, Trigger, Zippy and Stella. The last three are my cousins and that is my cousin.

And the light goes! Maybe I can say vandals took it!

good grief, Dana...I knew you was related to everyone in Wyoming but you even have cousins that are DOGS??

man and they talk about New Zealanders!!

OK give me your opinion. I asked for accent lighting for the porch. Mr. Electrician gave me the light on the porch. Does it stay or GO?

Yesterday I had to make a trip up to Thermopolis. Since I was already up in the area I decided to run up to Brokenback Mountain. The snow is about three feet deep up there and it is BEAUTIFUL. If anyone happens to be in the area it is a nice time to visit. You need a snowmobile to get to the top but just being there is really nice!

Have a wonderful day!
