Damn near perfect day
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:18:58 pm »
Yesterday I went to visit my step-gran in Yorkshire - it's the next county up the road from us, and a friend of mine on another forum I hang out on described it as:

Quote
For friends across the pond, Yorkshire=Texas and is our Lone Star State, where everything is bigger and better than elsewhere, especially snow at Easter.  ;D

Anyhow, I digress. I felt it was important that I visited her yesterday as I've not seen her for so long now, having been ill myself. She was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, but she's doing okay and her doctors are really pleased with her progress and have said her cancer's non-aggressive and they think it might have even shrunk slightly. One of the things that BBM and Brokie-ism's made me realise though is not to put off things, and at 84 I don't know how much longer she's going to be around for, so even though I wasn't feeling great, I made the effort to go, and it was so good to see her, and she was really pleased to see me. Anyway, the reason for this post (that was just a sort of explanation of what I was doing yesterday)...

Reasons why the day was damn near perfect...

Coffee and cherry cake
We took her out for lunch to a pub down the road. It specialises in steak and kind of "western" style stuff, so it was just like being at BetterMost! We just had a main course there as we'd got to be back at her house for 2pm as she'd got a decorator coming to give her a quote for re-decorating her kitchen, so she said we'd have dessert and coffee when we got back to the house, so we got back....and dessert was cherry cake and coffee! I've never even mentioned BBM to her, let alone the coffee and cherry cake reference, so she couldn't have know, but...well, bliss! No-one could quite work out why I was laughing at it though.  ;D

These boots are made for walking
My new boots arrived yesterday morning (fortunately the postman arrived before we set off for the day out) and they're totally gorgeous. They're Ariat Women’s Fatbaby Saddle Russet Rebel Boots (pic below). Though I love the more "traditional" western boots with the more pointed toes, I have "problem feet" and I have no nails on my big toes after having them removed due to persistently badly behaved ingrowing nails, so I'm a lot better with more rounded toes. The new boots are so damned comfy! I may never take them off again!

Hats don't suit me
Hats don't suit me, they never have done. I suppose it's partly because I've got short hair, and mostly hats just make me look like I don't have any hair. Whatever, I just look plain silly in most hats. Fortunately though there's just one type of hat I've found that does suit me. Guess what sort it is? My new hat also arrived yesterday, my first cowboy hat.  ;D I call it the "Jack special" because it reminds me of the one Jack's wearing at the start of the film (piccie below).

I still love dance
...And lastly, due to some rather nifty audio/visual software that can split audio and visual sources, and record streaming music from the internet, I now have a rather nice "techno" mix of "The Wings" on my MP3 player! I've put it in my "BBM" playlist that's got the soundtrack on it and other stuff that reminds me of the film.

So there we are - a damned near perfect day...now if I could only find me some bluebirds and a whiskey stream....  ;)

That sounds like a great day! Don't you just love it when 'something brokeback' pops up in your life and no one knows why you're suddenly laughing? I love that!

Great Jack-hat and boots.  :)

Okay, so I dug my camera out. You can't see much of the boots, but that is me wearing them (they're so comfy I've been wearing them all week for work, though I don't think my manager approves), and that's me in the hat too.  :D
