Clever Tips To Cut Your Grocery Bill
« on: April 20, 2008, 05:46:15 pm »
Grocery prices have spiraled out of control in many parts of the country, and in many parts of the world too. We are all looking for ways to save that precious cash for other things. It's ridiculous to spend all the extra money when you don't have to. I just found some interesting tips and information over on AOL. I was going to do the usual Cut/Paste over here, but it turns out it's one of those flip deals. You flip through it and it has pictures. I can't cut that. So, here's the link. People have shared all kinds of interesting tips and tricks which should come in handy for everyone the next time they go grocery shopping! :)

I think I'm gonna do this one...

A-LIST SAVINGS

"Create a "master" grocery list of EVERYTHING you use whether on a regular or periodic basis.  Categorize by the floor plan of the store where you shop most often; i.e. if produce dept is at front of store, start your list with that department and list anything you would ever purchase, and so forth.  When complete, photocopy and post a new list each week on the fridge or a bulletin board; circle items needed as you run low.  Take the copy each week to the store.  This saves the time used to make a new list each week and you only mark what you need at the time!" --Lorna Wood

I also liked this idea but have no idea what these bags are?

WE'RE BIG ON STORAGE BAGS & BOXES

"Debbie Meyer Greenbags have saved me so much money. I love to cook and I use a lot of fresh produce that I used to buy and depending on my busy work schedule might just sit in the fridge and end up tossing. However that doesn't happen any more. When I store my fruit or veggies in these bags it's amazing how much longer they last and taste." --Susan

"I stopped buying those bagged salads, which are almost $3.00 a bag in my area.  They always seemed to contain the rib pieces from the greens, and had brown edges.  Plus, they don't last long - we threw out as much (if not more) than we ate.  I got a large Rubbermaid container called a Produce Saver, and now I make my own salad mix.  I can get a head of leaf lettuce and a head of romaine lettuce for less than 2.00/lb. each, wash it, tear it into pieces and store it in the bowl.  I've used it for as long as 2 weeks before the greens start to wilt or turn brown.  An added bonus is that it makes it easier to eat healthy, too, because the greens are already picked over and clean!" --Vonda

I can't remember if this was listed on AOL, but I NEVER go to the grocery store hungry. I've found it is a recipe for disaster because EVERYTHING looks good. If I'm hungry at the time, I will have a quick snack before I leave.

Definately.....if I have a meal before I get my groceries, the amount I buy is nearly halved.

Another tip....dont take children with you, either your own or your grandchildren.
Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect.

It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfection

I buy my cleaning supplies at the dollar store, here called Family Dollar, where you can also get a painting on velvet of the Last Supper with a gold plastic frame.

Oh God, we have Family Dollar here too, along with the Dollar General. Yes, they sell all kinds of crappy artwork in those stores!
I love all the half opened packages laying on the shelves as I walk up and down the aisles.

And how about that Chinese toothpaste? ::)

HEY!!
