Brokeback Mountain . . . . .
« on: May 20, 2008, 07:11:14 am »
Hi,

Two days ago, for the first time, I watched Brokeback Mountain as it had it's first showing on UK terrestrial tv. I wasn't even going to bother watching it, but I did, and I think it has effected me. I cant stop thinking about it. Normally, I will watch a film and then the next day forget about it, but in the past two days, I have thought about the film so much and have even felt a little down (possibly also due to the exams I have this week!) but also for Ennis & Jack and the way things worked out for them. I have thought about the story which left quite a few unanswered questions, which is completely strange given that they are not real.

After a quick search on the movie, I found this site. I realise that many of you have experienced and discussed BBM since it's release, but I just thought I would write this post, I suppose to vent and get it out of my system, as I have exams tomorrow, and the Thursday, but cant get into revising.

Welcome, JTwist!

A lot of us came here the same way you did:  this film affected us like no other before or since, and we want to share, discuss, work it out.

We're still at it!  So, join in.  And, good luck with exams.

Hey JTwist,

welcome to Bettermost! :D

Two days ago, huh? I remember how confused and sad I felt during the time following my first viewing. I couldn't believe that a story about two fictional chatacters effected me so much, that it felt so damn REAL. We've all been through it, I can reassure you that you're not alone with your reaction to this movie.

Factoring your exams into the picture, this must be a hard time for you. Perhaps you can try to set yourself a time limit for exploring the boards and try to get back to your exam revisions after that.

Good luck with your exams and welcome again. I'm looking forward to read more from you.

Hi JJTwist from a fellow Brit and welcome to Bettermost. :) I share your view on being a lilttle let down after seeing the way things worked out for Jack and Ennis in the film. I remember being really annoyed when I read the short story that Jack died. I was really cross about that. WHY do things always have to end in tragedy I thought. Just for once can,t something work out for somebody? Irrational I know but thats what I thought. I,m an optomisit and I really believed that things could have worked out for them. I,m not saying it would have been easy, far from it, but it didn,t have to end that way, IMO. Yes BBM was shown on chanel 4 a couple of days ago, I remember seeing it. I,ve watched it on dvd only once all the way through.  I don,t know if you have found any fan fic, but if you look on the Brokeback Mountain fan fic thread there is loads of the stuff. In particular ALBFS by Leslie and Human Interest(finished) and Two Crows Joy(unfinished) by MadLori are WELL worth a read. It gives you an insight into how things COULD have been for them had they decided to make a go of it.  Look forward to "meeting" you some more around here. Enjoy your stay and good luck with your exams.  :)

JTwist!!

As others here have already said, you're definitely among lots of folks here who understand the reaction you're having to BBM after seeing it initially.  The first amazing phases of "Brokie fever" as we sometimes like to call it.

I think the issue of not being able to get it out of your head... to keep pondering it and to have the emotions the film evokes linger... is the main first manifestation of Brokie fever.

Well, I hope you enjoy exploring the forums... as you'll see there are tons of threads analyzing the film and story in every possible way.  And, there are other forums such as Social Events (that I co-moderate with Front-Ranger) that are all about the growing Brokie community and different online and real-life social opportunities.

I guess we'll see you around. ;) :)

Welcome from me too.
Not only will you find yourself among like minded people here, but you will find help, kind words, encouragement and advice on all manner of things. All truly hearfelt as well.
I came here dazed,in fact feeling like I had been thrown around by a tornado, and was sooo relieved it was not just me.I had never posted on any forum before and really felt I was going quietly mad.The relief of discovering I was not alone was immeasurable.I only wish I had posted sooner, instead of lurking. It was just such an alien thing for me to do,but now I am a completely happy little bunny.

BBM and what happened with Heath, still hurt, but you can vent all you want here and believe me I have,on numerous topics BBM and other completely non related things.Had a ton of good advice too, not to mention just good old sympathy.
I vaguely remember studying for exams,so good luck with that. My studying method left a little to be desired though, feeling guilty about leaving it so late, followed by not being able to study because I was in such a panic having left it so late, followed by several all nighters.

Look forward to your posts, and hearing how the exams went.

JTwist hello - I'm also in the UK (just outside Glasgow to be exact) and wondered if we may have a few people joining here after it showed on Channel 4 (for me its the first time I've watched it fully in a while...)

Those feelings are exactly the feelings I had when I saw it in the cinema back in January 2006... it just got inside my head and I was constantly thinking about it! And I had no idea why - it wasn't like I was a closeted gay male in turmoil or anything!

But I love the film and thank it for helping me find some many like minded and wonderful people - enjoy the forum and good luck in the exams - this time of year sucks doesn't it - but I'm guessing you're nearing the end of exams so keep going till then and then you can focus your energy to looking thorugh this site!!

Please Pm (personal message) me or anyone if you feel like it - we're mostly a friendly bunch!!  ;D

Thanks guys. My exams have now finished so I will have loads of free time, well except for work! I got to wait till aug to find out the results though.

Thanks for posting these, I have been reading the first one (in between revising, or maybe instead of...) the story is  excellent, and I am well and truly hooked - I am glad the story is finished when I started reading it, I wouldnt like waiting for the next chapter. I still have about 7 chapters left and dont want it to end .
