The snow barely lasted an hour,
Yet Joe issued an order so dour,
Jack began to take down the tent,
Ennis started to vent,
He felt angry, sick; life could be so sour.

Ennis showered and wore his sunday best,
His shirt was clean and his hair was pressed,
After four long years he'd see

Jack's mother baked a cherry cake that morn',
She hummed, thinking of the day her son was born.
