Kerry, is Ian Thorpe competing for Australia?

I haven't heard. All we hear over here is Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps. ...   ::)  :-\

Alas, Ian "The Thorpedo" Thorpe is not competing.  :'(  In his absence, keep an eye on Aussie swim stars Grant Hackett and Stephanie Rice.  :D

Yes, Kerry, like you, I too sat up and watched the opening ceremony, and I thought it was spectacular.

Us Aussies are quite lucky this time, as our time zone is only two hours different to China, so we get to see most of the events at a decent hour.

And great news today, Stephanie Rice got the gold......Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi

The "Thorpedo" is not an Olympian? WTF?  ???

That's a shame.  :(

It is, indeed, a shame. However, it is my understanding that Ian Thorpe voluntarily retired from competitive swimming. It was his own choice. I'm sure I can speak for most Australians, as well as swim fans everywhere, when I say what a shame it is that he has retired.  :'(

Cannot believe the announcers of the women's gymnastic are lamenting the "good ole days" of Romanian gymnastics when Karolyi was in charge.

Karolyi is a martinet.  His training regime back in the days of Nadia was brutal and cruel and did not take into account the mental, physical or emotional health of the young girls in his charge.

He's a shit.
