This item is approximately 12-1/2" tall, it is made of silver and brass, and manufactured in Germany around 1652.

What do you think it is? I will reveal the answer in a few days. :)

I voted for the Sextant used aboard a ship......mainly because in the 1600's when it was made, that was probably something that they needed and used more than anything else on the list.

Gasp!  :o  This is a tough one, David!   ???

I'm guessing Shadow Lamp For Simulating Lunar and Solar Eclipses.

Fingers crossed, but I'm not feeling very optimistic about winning a lamb this time.  :-\

What do you think it is, Jess? I'm stumped!  :(

Oh, this is a hard one, David.  I don't think I'll be winning a sheep this time!   :)  I voted for the sextant, but a lot of the choices seemed possible!  Thanks, David!

Okay! Here's the answer!!!!!

It is............................................

 :D  :D  :D

It is...................................

 :D  :D  :D

Hang on..............................................

 :D  :D  :D

Be patient and wait for it.............................................

 :D  :D

It is.............................................

 :D  :D  :D

You're not going to believe it..................................

 :D  :D  :D

But I SWEAR it's true..........................

 :D  :D  :D

It is..............................

 :D  :D  :D

A SUN DIAL!!!!!!

 :D  :D  :D

It is a multi-faced or polyhedral sundial, with 29 gnomons (the parts that cast shadows). But it seems this device demonstrates the craftman's interest in solving intricate puzzles, rather than any practical application of his knowledge.

So there you have it! It looks like nobody won a lamb from Ennis and Jack this time around either!  >:(   >:(

I'll post another What Is It puzzle here in a little while!!

Thanks for playing everyone! :)

It certainly is a very unusual looking sun dial.  ???

Not exactly what I imagine when I think of a sun dial . . .

Cussin'?  ???

"Fair dinkum" isn't swearing, Jess!  ::)

In Australia, it's usually used as an exclamation (like "Goodness gracious" or "Gosh") and translates as something like "It's the truth."

It can also be interpreted as an indication of exasperation, such as, "Fair dinkum, mate, you take the cake," which roughly translates as, "Well, goodness gracious me, my friend, you certainly are a major wanker"  ;)

Yeah, thanks Kerry for explaining to Jess......I was just gonna let her think it was cussin, cause to try to describe all the meanings of fair dinkum was too much to go into.

Now this part of the thingie is a sundial, but what's all the other stuff for?  ???

I thought the rest of the machine(?) could be for converting/calculating the time to different time zones. Oh well, no lamb this time.

*dang*, David, you know how much I want to have a whole flock, so I can convince my hubby we need to hire some sheepherders ;D
