Kerry's "What is it"? ***ANSWER POSTED***
« on: August 17, 2008, 01:00:57 am »
David provides us all with so much pleasure and entertainment with his fun "What is it?" polls. I thought it would be nice to create a "What is it?" poll that David could also enter and enjoy. So here's one especially for you, David, as well as for everyone else to participate in.

This object is made of cast iron and is a little over 12" (30cm) in height, with a detachable lid.

Why thank you Kerry! This is fun! :D

Now what the hell IS that thang?  ???  ???

I'm tempted to say "I don't know what it is" but I won't go that route. So....  :-\

Those figures on the side of the object (the handles) look Aztec or Mayan, or even maybe Inca. Some of those tribes (I think the Mayans) offered hearts and blood to their gods, so I'm guessing it is a container to hold the hearts of sacrificial victims".

I voted for: "Ancient container for fermenting grapes."

Great idea Kerry! 8)  Do you know what your prize will be for this quiz?  Will Ennis and Jack be giving out lambs for your quiz too... or will they come up with something else?

I agree with you, David. It does, indeed, look Aztec or Mayan. Whether or not that's correct, however, remains to be seen! Ha-ha!  ;)   ;D

I've not decided upon prizes as yet, Amanda. However, having said that, I suspect they will be less woolly than previously and probably involve a great deal of glitter!!!  ;)

Ive gone for "ancient oil amphora"....not that i know what the amphora bit means, but it looks like something that the ancients would have kept their oil in.......
