Are you a Heathen or a Gyllenhaalic?

Probably goes without saying for, ahem, some of us.  But I just thought it'd be fun to see the stats.

Hell, I'm the first voter, the only time that Heath has a chance to be ahead, and guess what - NO!!  barb voted too. Well at least for a little while they'll be tied!

This is an easy one: Heath!

(But I wouldn't throw Jake out of my bed, too  ;) )

Heath is winning, where are all the Gyllenhaalics?

Barb,

Maybe you should make this a "mandatory" poll for all bettermost regulars.  Let's have a show down on this just for the heck of it.  ;)

We can have this poll pop-up when they log in and won't dismiss the page until they cast their votes.  I bet you can code something to make this happen. ;D

I voted for both, but you know...

I've thought Heath was cute for several years. And he completely, absolutely blew me away in BBM. I couldn't believe that was the same guy as in A Knight's Tale. And I wouldn't throw him out of bed for eating crackers.

But, ummmmmmmmmm... Jake is, ummmm, mesmerizing. I don't dare discuss Jake's other movies, because I don't think I'm entirely rational about them.

I probably could.  But that would require actual thinking.  And I'm suffering from brain liquification of late.

Hi Barb:

would it be possible to make this poll:
a mandatory poll for all the regulars?  I think it's a damned shame that this poll wasn't created months ago at the dawn of the BBM phenomenon.  It would be nice to garner as many votes as possible from all the Brokies, before it's too late....

whaddaya say hunh?

I'd love to make that one mandatory.  But secretly, I really don't know how.   :-\  I've heard tell there's something called a "stickie" here that some of the moderators have affixed to threads they want to keep at the top of the queue - sort of permanently "bumped."  But I don't think I have the access rights to do that, not being a moderator, myself.

Can the real moderator of this forum please stand up?   :-*

I identify with Ennis, so that must mean I lust for Jake/Jack.

OTOH, I sure wouldn't turn down Heath. My mama may have raised a faggot, but she didn't raise no fool!

Hey, I wouldn't turn Heath down, either.  But Jake has invaded my soul.  I have written 63 songs about Jake.  Here's my latest one:  "Jake Lies."  Wanna hear it?

True also to Annie Proulx, who says you can't have Ennis without Jack. To which I would add, who would really want one without the other? Not me, that's for sure!  :)

I guess this 2:1 ratio is what it has seemed like all along.  I don't mind (much).  I think if the poll question had been "Do you love BOTH Heath AND Jake, yes or no?" we would have had 100% "Yes!"

I am a definate Heathen! I love Heath Ledger. He was so cute  in "10 Things I Hate About You". I fell in love with him from the first time I watched that movie. "Brokeback Mountain" only made me love him  more!

I am a confirmed  Heathen. Come to think of  it, there has been a few times people actually called me a Heathen. But somehow, I don't think they were referring to Heath Ledger!   :-\

You're a true Heathen, David.

Actually, I'm more of a Jack-ahollic than a Gyllenhaalic.  I thought it was weird that I ended up liking the character Jack more than the actor himself.  Anyone else have that problem of liking a character more than the actor?  Don't get me wrong, I do love Jake too.

I've had that problem several times, though not with Jack/Jake.  I did fall in love with Jack and will always love him.  Ennis, too.  But I fell in lust with Jake completely separately.  And that all started actually after a few viewings of Brokeback, when I started seeing him do the talk show circuit and discovered what a lovely person he is - I had never seen him interviewed before Brokeback, so I had no idea.  The first thing I saw him on was Leno, and he was an absolute DOLL.  Confident without being arrogant, sharp as a tack, funny, warm, sweet, ...  I could go on all day.  Haven't been able to get him out of my head ever since.  And don't really care to.

The characters/actors I've had that problem with, though, off the top of my head:

Will Shakespeare in Shakespeare in Love - ADORE him.  Joseph Fiennes, not so much

Will Hunting in Good Will Hunting - ADORE him.  Matt Damon, not so much (though I do think he's a very talented actor)

Crash Davis in Bull Durham - LOVE him.  CANNOT stand Kevin Costner - I think he's The Most Boring Man in America - perhaps the world

On the flip side, I adore Ralph Fiennes the actor and the person, but I'm not wild about any of the characters he's played.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only person with that problem.  I guess it could be a common situation and I see your point in your examples.

I guess the reason I love cute Jack so much is because I know him quite well and can relate to him.  I do lust for Jack but I love him much, much more.  And yes, Ennis too.  As for Jake, I don't know much about him at all.  I can understand why you fell in lust with Jake--most of us probably do.  After all he is very handsome and charming, and he appear to be sweet and warm in interviews.  But I know nothing else about him.  I guess I love Jake because he's a good actor, good looking, and seems like a good person overall, but nothing deep like the way I feel about Jack Twist.

I know where you're coming from.  Jack seems much more real to me than Jake, and really that's as it should be.  If you know too much (or think you know too much) about an actor's personal life, it makes it difficult to fully enjoy his characterizations.  I kind of go out of my way not to know more about Jake and other actors whose work I really enjoy - I don't want to spoil all the roles they have yet to play for myself.  And of course just being fans and not actual friends, how much can one really know about any of them anyway?  And I'm with you - I lust after him because of what he seems to be and because something physiological about him just does it for me on some sort of primitive level moreso than all the other handsome leading man types out there who are on the same par of attractiveness.  That's as deep as that goes - as deep as it can go.  Not to mention about as long as a sentence can go...

The title of the most boringnest actor in the world is taken by Orlando Bloom, Barb. That reminds me of an anecdote. I was driving along the road to the Denver airport one time and saw out of my rearview a Ferrari Testarosa quickly coming up on me. I said to myself, That has got to be Don Johnson heading from the Centennial Airport, where his plane is, to DIA (Don has a house in Aspen). So, I slowed down to let him pass and give me an eyeful. But it was not Don, it was Kevin Costner.

I am also a Gyllenhaalic, because there is so much Ennis in my personality already that I dare not allow in any more. So, I had a dream about Jake last night (my first, always before, I've dreamed about Jack). He was visiting some kind of institution as part of a fund-raising program, and I was part of the staff. When he walked into the room, the rest of the staff got all googly-eyed and shy, but not me. I barged right up to him and welcomed him to the place and offered to give him a tour. I just couldn't keep my hands off of him! I kept shaking his hand (with two of my own), touching his back to steer him, and even pulling his hair, which seemed to tickle his funny bone. Then, he said he had to use the bathroom and would I show him the way. Instead, I got behind him and was gently pushing him toward the basement! Then he started to resist, and sob, I woke up!

:snork:

Yeah, Orlando Bloom is right up there with KC.  Blah City.

Tell you what, I started watching "Rumor Has It" one night last week, and as much as I like Mark Ruffalo (and always sort of perversely enjoy how eerily like my last boyfriend before meeting my husband he looks and acts), as soon as Kevin Costner started taking up screen time, I couldn't watch it any longer.  He just bored me senseless.  It's actually creepy just how boring he is.  And to see him in an interview, it's even moreso.

Nice dream, by the way (except for your untimely wake-up call).  I never seem to have those celebrity dreams.  And not for the lack of trying, believe me.

I swear there is something interesting going on up there in heaven because I've not only been having weird dreams but have been replaying parts of the movie in my head nonstop. And there is something in the air, particularly at night, like electricity, and the wildlife around my place has been going crazy, elk bugling, coyotes yipping, wild turkeys screaming, etc. etc. It's a zoo!!

It may not exactly be going on up there in heaven.  Not to be all doom and gloom, but I'm starting to think this whole global warming thing is coming to a head, and like Al Gore says, we're going to see massive changes to our planet because of it not in our children's lifetimes, but in *our* lifetimes.  I keep telling Ed we need to buy some land in northern Florida because in about 10 years, everything in the peninsula is going to be under water when that Greenland ice shelf goes.  This is one case in which I really don't want to be right, but I fear I might be.

I'd agree with that. And at one time -- post LOR, probably -- I considered Orlando hot. Now I feel sorry for him, because in interviews he seems very sweet and well-meaning and polite if, well, kind of boring. And onscreen, he's still handsome, but YAWN. There's no there there.

As for Kevin Costner, I respectfully disagree. I think he's wonderful in those light romantic comedies like Bull Durham, Tin Cup, The Upside of Anger and even (to a lesser degree), Rumor Has It. He's sort of casual and light convincing and sexy in a (now) aging way. I usually don't like him in dramas, though.

So, did you get to see Broken Trail on TV with KC? If so, what did you think?

No, I didn't see it.

I forgot to mention earlier that KC may well be boring in real life. I've never read or watched him interviewed.

Orlando Bloom is another actor where I like his character of Legoles more.  Much more.  Yeah Legoles is awesome, of course not nearly as awesome as Jack Twist is to me, but he is great and I like him.  Orlando Bloom?  Big deal.  I hope I won't offend any Orlando lovers but I'm neutral regarding him.

Have U ever tried lucid dreaming, Barb? I recommend it highly!! I have a book called The Dream Game which tells how to do it, and I got a few others from the library. You just have to train yourself. Once U do, you'll enjoy bedtime much more, I promise! And Jake will be visiting U as often as U want!!

No, but it's funny you mention it - one of my girlfriends who came over to watch BBM last Friday got talking about it when we were chitchatting (for literally hours) afterwards.  She told us about a dream she had about a month ago that was so disturbing, I still get a chill just thinking about it.  At the point where the (very) bad guy had her cornered, she said, "Normally in dreams like that I turn on one of my superpowers and start flyling or something."  She said it so matter-of-factly and I was like, "Whaaa???"  She said, "You know - that active or lucid dreaming, where you *control* what happens to you."  My oldest brother has said he does it all the time, too, so he can fly any time he wants to.

Hell, screw flying.  I just want Jake to visit me.  *eg*

I voted for both equally.  Like many have said - I couldn't turn either down!  What a night that would be *evil grin*

Jake has the most gorgeous eyes on a man I have ever seen, heck he even had me drooling in "Day After Tomorrow",  and I'm crazy for Heath's smile and Aussie accent  :)  Heath also gets me with his (at least seemingly) shy personality in interviews.  I'm a sucker for the shy, quiet type.

I often have lucid dreams.  It's related to sleep paralysis.  I often have sleep paralysis first before a lucid dream in a single episode.  Haven't dream of our boys yet though.  I need to try to imcorporate them into my dreams.  I usually have problems controlling what dreams I want, but have no problems controlling the outcome.

25% to 50%!!, The Heathens are really outnumbered by the Gyllenhaalics!  What's that all about?  Are we more reserved like Heath seems to be?  More repressed like Ennis?  This is the most I've typed in..., well, the last hour or so, lol!

I like them both... but I like Jake more :)
I saw you were sick and tired of my wrong turns.
If you only knew the way I feel,
I'd really love to tell you,
But I could never seem to say
The things I needed to.
On a day like today
No other words would do.

AND the number of Heathens is about equal to the number of people who like them both equally.
