Maybe I should retitle this tread to "Wonderful gender neutral songs" in order to let people post more than one.

Here's a great 21st century song who's power drew me first with the words, then with the melody -and it's french! I'll try and find a proper translation 'cause it really is powerful

This is not just the song of the year (as voted by Québecois a few years ago) but truly a song for the ages ...

I had google translate the song - What a horrible experience! So I tried to "correct" the translation, and no doubt made many errors of my own. But I think I managed to convey the essence of the lyrics with this translation. People - This is truly a special song!

Nicola Ciccone - I Love You, Is All (liberally translated by me)

I love you, is all
Without “a lot” or “truly”
Without frightening or seeming to
Without conditions or rules

I love you, is all
Without “maybe” nor “just”
Without ornaments nor diamonds
Without decorations nor special chains

I love you, is all
Without drum rolls or cannons
Without winners or losers
Without promises or traps

I love you, is all
Without storms or volcanos
Come rain or shine
Deep within my soul

All these words are just words
Love is but a single word
When it is pure and simple
All these words are just words
I don’t need all these word
To tell you “I love you”

I love you, is all
Without commas without accents
Without segue or special oath
Without hang-ups or embarrassments

I love you, is all
Without a time limit
In the past, in the present
Farther than any dream

All these words are just words
Love is but a single word
When it is pure and simple
All these words are just words
I don’t need all these word
To tell you “I love you”

I love you, is all
Even if the man is beastly violent
Even if living is lunacy
Even if our sorrows are heavy burdens

I love you, is all
Madly, tenderly,
Extremely, with all of my being
Close to you, touching your lips

All these words are just words
Love is but a single word
When it is pure and simple
All these words are just words
I don’t need all these word
To tell you “I love you”

All these words are just words
Love is but a single word
When it is pure and simple
All these words are just words
I don’t need all these word
To tell you “I love you”

Needless to say - the original lyics are MUCH more meaningful than any possible translation

Thanks to Isabelle and Milli for their ideas of ways to improve this translation

So I feel I can post this song in French too - a translation for it will follow. I LOVE this song, it is extremely sensitive, nostalgic, just beautiful. For the lucky ones who understand French...

Just seems less wonderful without the tune...

Here's my translation now; important note: in French, "gauche" means "left" and also "awkward".

WITH MY LEFT HAND

I write you with my left hand, that which has never spoken,
It hesitates, it is so awkward, that I always hid it.
I would put it in my pocket, and there it would be down in the dumps,
Toy with quavers and make up stories.

I write you with my left hand, that which never counted,
That which made all the mistakes, or so they said.
I made sure it kept silent, so I could find the right path,
A life devoid of mystery where no one holds hands.

Words scribbled into trembling sketches in the narrow margin,
I'm feeling so awkward and yet so fine.
Here you are, this is my desperation,
Here you are, this is the truth;
I have never had an address, just a false identity.

I write you with my silly hand which does not have a clenched fist,
For war it is not ready, for power it has no skill;
Here do I discover it now, like a forgotten treasure,
A sight for wayward paths that I recover.

We all follow the straight line, it is shorter, yeah it's shorter,
We can't see that it is narrow, that there's no more room for love.
I wanted to say I love you, without hope nor regret,
I wanted to say I love you, love you
Because it rings true.

Humilitas, by Lesiem:

Humilitas Humanitas
Amat Pacem Phidias Amat Pacem
Ratio Ama Rationem
Egosum Pastor Bonus, Pastor Bonus

Whatever the cost
Whatever I do
No matter my fate
I know that you will allways
Pull me through.
Everything is possible with you.

Pasce Agnos Meos Agnos
Libera Nos Amator Paupertatis

Wherever I go
Wherever you are
The peace you bring
Is lifting me so far.
Now I see
It's a miracle.
So hush now.
Forgive me all the secrets
All the lies.
Hold me.
Everything is holy now you're mine.
You bring me home.

Fateor Manus Do Vobis
O Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum

You have made me see
That whatever the cost
Whatever I do
Whatever my fate
I know that I will always count on you
You made me see
Oh hush now
Forgive me all the secrets
And the lies.
Hold me
And deep within the mystery of your eyes
I am home at last.

Pax Humilitas Humanitus Deus
Pax Intrantibus Salus Exeuntibus
Pax Intrantibus
Why do we consume what we consume?
Why do we believe what we believe?
Why do we accept what we accept?
You have a body, a mind, and a soul.... You have a responsibility.
