Ooooo - you figured out how to create polls!  I can't vote - I only saw one of them...nah - I'll vote anyway.

Good, no Crash votes. Any and all Crash voters will be hereby banned from here and any other Brokeback related discussions.

'hereby' is my word of the day, lol.

I must say I liked Capote, and voted accordingly.

Crash was a totally enjoyable film. Until December came and the really good ones came out, ha! In a year without BBM, Capote and GN&GL, Crash would have beem a fair contender at BP together with Munich, and nobody would have had issues about it (Crash) winning, because too many people were mystified or annoyed by what Spielberg tried to do with Munich and voted against it, and because without a comparison film like BBM few people would have noticed, or bothered to point out Crash's many flaws.

Jeez, can I write longer and more convoluted phrases?...

Moni - I agree. I liked Crash. I watched it, liked it, was entertained, but then when on with my life. I think I'm just Brokeback-biased!

I never liked Crash, I saw it before I'd even heard about Brokeback and disliked it. We all have our opinions though ;D

LOL, call it bias, but I think that, after being able to really take in a film of BBM's calibre, and have it affect us emotionally so deeply, it's hard to fully enjoy other films, mostly when they are lesser ones. You know: once you taste the gods' ambrosia it's hard to go back to beans, even if once you did like them...

I think we need time to heal from what BBM did to us, LOL. I know I do.

I saw Crash.  I loved Crash.  I bought Crash.  While I think the script was flawed, I appreciate it for what it is and I was very entertained by it.  I can honestly say that Brokeback Mountain was the better film.  Easily.  And I'm not the only person in this boat, it seems that almost everyone on the planet agrees with me.  It's not that I hate Crash.  I don't.  I was even the person that gave it the one vote (or at least the first vote) that you see up above.

-- Please note that Crash was my second favorite, not the film that I thought was second best.  The second best film was easily Good Night, and Good Luck. Unbelievably well done film. --

No bias here.  Crash is good (I'm actually up to watching it tonight)... but to even say it is in the same league as Brokeback Mountain in terms of quality and weight is absolutely ridiculous.

Moni - you are so right. I've watched several films since BBM and haven't really enjoyed any of 'em. Even while watching Proof, all I thought was "Gwyneth doesn't make for a good Ennis."

Tee-hee, I was thinking the same thing!!! The chemistry between Jack and Ennis was a thousand times better than the one between hal and Catherine, although Jake was great in the love scenes with Gwyneth. Come to think about it, Gwyneth never does a good romantic scene, although she can play quite well otherwise. Like a player who never knows how to pass the ball.

Ray and I agreed that Crash would have been MUCH better if it didn't win the Oscar..

I saw it.  It was a fairly enjoyable film but after an hour, I found myself thinking "oKAY! I get it! Racism = Bad.. please stop punching me in the face with it!!!"

My pick after BBM, would have been Goodnight and Good Luck. David Strathairn is one of the most underrated actors of our time.
Chut up!

LMAO!!  That's SO true - for ANY of Jake's romantic movies.  He had the best chemistry and most convincing onscreen relationship with Heath!  No contest!!   :D

I voted none, since none of them were my favorite. I didn't see Munich, but finally got around to seeing the others. I like Good Night and Good Luck, but Constant Gardner was my favorite behind BBM. And I like Pride and Prejudice a lot too.

Same here. Even after all the years between, I haven't seen a single one of them. Not out of spite, but out of lack of interest. Albeit Munich probably is worth it.
I remember that after Brokeback, I couldn't watch any other movie for months. :o
Not on TV, not on DVD, not in theater - no movie held my interest for more than ten minutes. OTOH, I probably wouldn't even had the time to find the two hours, I pulled enough night shifts on the interent as it was.

I watched Crash just to view the competition.  It wasn't a film; it was a blunt instrument, and I had no desire ever to see it again.

I saw Capote and liked it fine.  However good PSH was, it's still just an impression of a real person.  Heath created Ennis out of thin air, and incredible accomplishment.

Here's a nice connection:  Chrissi's throwback Thursday bump is of old reviews, and here's one from the Stanford Daily:

"Ledger (  ) succeeds wildly in a role so completely original that he seems to have had nothing to draw on aside from a tremendous amount of heart."

Neither did I! I was so consumed by BbM I could not put my attention anywhere else. Except of course my father in the hospital for weeks.

I've seen all of them except "Munich," the movie that I would have seen instead on the night I went to "Brokeback," except that it didn't fit as well into my schedule. Somewhere out there is an alternative-universe me who did go to "Munich" instead, and is now living a whole different life. She's financially richer, probably  ;D, but far poorer in terms of friends, experiences, understanding of film and literature. And she missed a damn fun BBQ in 2007.

Anyway, I thought all of the others were good. But IMO "Crash," while worth watching, was in a lower league than the others. Paul's "blunt instrument" description is exactly right. And "Brokeback," needless to say, was far and away the best. If I were conspiracy-minded, which I'm not, I'd think the academy somehow secretly jammed "Crash" in there -- it was sort of a last-minute dark-horse candidate, as I recall -- so they could all agree on something with a politically progressive message, without having to upset stodgier members like Tony Curtis and Ernest Borgnine.
