:D   Y'all wanna start the Gospel of John?!?   How about tomorrow?

John Chapter 1: be there or send up a prayer!    ;D ;)

hey, Wayne. I didn't know where to put this so...

here is why I do not go to church anymore.

My sister had a nervous breakdown a couple of weeks ago. Bedridden, been in the hospital, the whole nine yards. Called me last night, crying her head off saying she loved me and was sorry she wasn't a good sister to me.

then she said "I cant stand knowing you are going to hell when you die"

So this is religion? just a tool to make people feel bad? That is all she has gotten from going to church? that everyone is going to hell (everyone that doesnt' go to HER little church)...

and it is really upsetting her. I won't participate in that.....it is not right to put that in people's heads. I can't/won't accept that God set up the whole Universe and all of human history so a couple of hundred people in East Texas can go to Heaven....

I am also a little irritated that she has even been THINKING about the state of my soul! that is MY business...

I figure, I wouldn't send anybody to Hell - eternal physical or psychological torture - forever for anything.

Not Hitler, not the people who crucified Jesus (Father forgive them!), not even Ronald Reagan himself.

Is God as compassionate as me?

If he or she were not, then he or she would not be good.

And if we worshipped someone who was not good, merely to gain some benefit like living forever or going to a place where the streets are paved with gold, we would be materialistic jerks seeking to sell our souls to the highest bidder.

And we certainly aren't that !     :o :P

Another possibility is that God actually is compassionate and would not choose to send anyone to hell, but those are just the rules.

In other words, maybe God didn't make the rules, he just has to live by them.

Maybe he made a deal with the Devil and he can't back out now.

Or maybe there is a higher power than the being we call God, and that's who says that's the way it has to be.

In that case, God should have been honest about it and told us straight up. Or he could at least tell us now.

And that power (the power higher than the God we know about) would be a bad guy for the same reason.
