People are coming and going from the BetterMost Can Club, it's difficult to keep track of who's where! Never mind your status, y'all are welcome to hang out here, where there's never a shortage of beans!

Now that I am back from my summer vacation, I'm starting to think about getting a new job. I'm feeling a little conflicted about it, because I've really enjoyed these five months of leisure. I say that tongue in cheek because I've been busier than ever! Fortunately, I'm getting interest and lining up some interviews. I've been using LinkedIn a lot to get visibility, and I highly recommend it!

I say believe me sincerely, when I say how sorry I am for all the people who have been "canned" or let go, or
otherwise cut from their employment.  Most of all to folks like Lee who was treated as if she were a criminal in some
way.  Like a police escort from the premises.  That is unnecessary, and rude plus demeaning, and just plain uncalled for.
I dont understand how some companies can stay in business.  The people at the top are such theives in many ways,
and they have the gall to treat the people that work for them, as if they are the criminals.
We have been fairly lucky.  Kens work has slowed way down, and he works less than he has for a long time, but we
are doing ok.  Mainly because we are really retired, and have our retirement from teamsters, as well as the federal retirement.
If we didnt have those, there is no way we could make it.
I sure hope that this economy will turn around in the not too distant future.  People can get back to meaningful
and monitarily reasonable wages.   This has been a very bad time.  I truly wish all of you the best in your individual searches,
because It is truly scary to be in the unemployed line, and not know if it will be a long time before you will truly be gainfully employed again...all my sincere hopes for you all.  janice

Thanks for those nice words, Janice.

Me, I've been pretty much skimming the borderline of bonkers.  It's so fucking frustrating, and things go in fits and starts because you can't help but just give up for a while after a setback.

I interviewed with 2 companies: the one I mentioned a while back and another one that was also seemed to be a really laid-back place. (2 of the guys interviewing me looked as if they'd just rolled out of bed, put shoes on and stumbled into work. Bed-hair, everything.)  Anyway, they gave me this audition-piece to write and design, and I worked my ASS OFF on it.  Next thing I know, they tell me they picked someone with a more specific skill set.
They'd asked me in the interview whether I'd designed and coded web sites from scratch, or inserted content into a WordPress template type deal.  I'd done the first, but not the second — which I imagine was the specific skill they were looking for since they were going to do that with their next site.  Well SHIT... don't you thing that if I've coded stuff from the fucking ground up, that I can handle inserting content into a fucking TEMPLATE?
Sigh.

So anyway, I've done NOTHING toward a job search for weeks and weeks.  Met a few folks, given out my card.  Other than that, fuck it.  Applying online is just like the lottery — just this blind shit you put a lot of effort into, for NOTHING.  I'm so sick of it.

 :(

I am so sorry that you're having such a difficult time Laura.  I know what it feels like all too well, believe me.  Try to think positive and have faith that your job will come along soon.  Someone has got to notice how talented you are and hire you.  Don't give up!
