The ordering  of EW's 'Film Directors' list is a little bit, um, perversely eccentric, I have to say....
"Tu doives entendre je t'aime."
(and you know who I am...)

Cowboy Curtis (Laurence Fishburne)
and Pee-wee in the 1990 episode
"Camping Out"

Ang Lee to head Venice Film Festival jury

Feb 27th, 2009 | VENICE, Italy -- Director Ang Lee, who twice won the Venice Film Festival's prestigious Golden Lion award, will head its jury this year.

Now this made me go woot! Should be interesting.

I saw the EW list of directors some days ago and just rolled my eyes at it. Even as a die-hard "Rings" fan I'm not at all sure that Peter Jackson deserves the second place. And as for Ang Lee's modest placement, that's nonsense. They must be judging the directors largely on how much cash they've raked in.

Maybe his mental/emotional age?

Maybe his mental/emotional age?

LOL!  ;D

But seriously, whatever has Chris Nolan done to deserve his placement? The list of film's he's made.... OK, again with the raking in the cash. That has to be the main criteria here.

I am very curious to see how Peter Jackson's "Lovely Bones" will be. Whether he'll manage the return to a restrained and intimate depiction of ordinary settings, everyday lives and strong human emotions after those various SFX-riddled mega-blockbusters. King Kong IMO saw the director indulging himself in Special effects extravaganza to a downright embarrassing degree. Enough T-Rexes, already!  ::)

12. DAVID FINCHER
11. GUILLERMO DEL TORO
10. JOEL AND ETHAN COEN
9. JAMES CAMERON
8. MICHAEL MANN
7. QUENTIN TARANTINO
6. RIDLEY SCOTT

4. CHRISTOPHER NOLAN
3. MARTIN SCORSESE
2. PETER JACKSON
1. STEVEN SPIELBERG

I didn't say I agreed with the list, just that they are all well known directors..  Several shouldn't even be on the list IMO, (*cough* Ron Howard *cough*!) but I wouldn't call them nobodies.  BTW, what was Cameron's last movie? Titanic from '97?  ::)  Believe me, my list would be toally different with less Americans.

Agreed! Where are the Italians, the French, the Japanese? Oh, this is a list of active directors. Never mind.

I just heard that Ang's latest, Taking Woodstock, will be shown in Berkeley California on March 16. I wonder if any Bay Area Brokies will go??
