  • ...a love that will never grow old
As  am exhausted having done much physical labour, plus other ones, I aim to add something to my last post of to-day's, before I forget, since at my age, I tend to be forgetting having much to do, or I'll rumine on this and not sleep much or at al! So, here are three (3) points, as I  thought as I watched  the movie Rain Man to-night:

This is about what a Committee of Issues could be:
1- to Guide to a thread;
2- to Create a thread or threads;
3- to possibly seek out what is wanted by someone ( a member) or maybe members (and/or non-members);

This First point, TO GUIDE TO A THREAD would help, instead of a or moderators suggesting on an already existing thread, (this would give Phillip and moderators help and repose),
one or more members of the Committee of Issues, suggests to a member or members a new thread already just or recently created which might interests the member or members,
or that the member can create such a thread is suggested or asked and if help is needed or desired for that futur creation of a thread;

The Second point is the Creation of a new thread; those new threads could be suggestions by such a Committee of Issues (as many issues have not yet been created yet, and/or old issues are needs or are wanted to be continued or re-started with the exact way or in a new route or off-route); any member of all the members of Bettermost can also suggest thread titles or create them, and  of course it would be also the duty of the Commitee of Issues to start and create threads that other members do not!!! (Anyone can join anytime such Committee of Issues and anytime quite it temporarily or permanently!)

The Third point is seeking out what are or is an Issue wanted or in need!

Hoping that some of you or all will think about this and add ideas too,

Au revoir, keep care.
hugs!

I'm gonna have to disagree also that some major overhaul needs to happen here at BetterMost. I am of the opinion that if people act like adults and treat each other with respect we would be in clover.  Unfortunately, the anonymity of the internet allows people to behave in unbecoming ways. Pretty much the only way to combat that is with rules that are enforced. I am not opposed to having an ombudsman here but I don't see much need for one as the Town Hall provides a place for people to voice their concerns or suggestions. I fear that the ombudsman would just became a ear for whining and complaining by a malcontent few rather than constructive feedback as their already exists many avenues for this that.

As for having a committee to maintain threads, which is already the responsibility of the moderators of each forum, I am unclear of the need for this. There is a learning curve for new members coming into the community and learning their away around but, for the most part, the forums are pretty easy to navigate. Having a committee to start threads isn't necessary as anyone can start a topic and if people are interested in contributing to it they will. We cannot force people to participate in a discussion. In busy threads it is easy to miss a topic that may already have been posted but that is pretty easy to correct by a moderator.

I think it is important to keep in mind that this is a diverse community and needs and interests are very broad. BetterMost cannot be all things to all people but it can, will and does, respond to repeated requests for additions and changes.

Merci enjaRouxB !

I just read once only your post, which had many information or opinions or views!!!

Concerning that you say:
      As for having a committee to maintain threads...

.....
enjaRouxB: that is NOT what I suggest about a proposed      Committee of Issues            !

I do think that that is the Moderators tasks, like you say:
  which is already the responsibility of the moderators of each forum        to maintain threads !!!
.............

However, at times, a moderator or moderators does or do suggest that an issue be continued as another thread or sub-thread, and that to some or many or one is difficult for member(s) to understand and accept, on some occassions! Therefore, I suggest that this matter would be referred to a Committee of Issues  ! Then, things would likely be smooth and no one maybe would be upset, because the Committee of Issues, one of its members or more... will start such threads and try to MOTIVATE members to get interested in that new thread !!!

That could be one way? One of the tasks of the Committe of Isssues!
..........

You say:
  to    start threads isn't necessary              ,
and may you think that I find it nescessary, and that I see that other members do too!
Let's not forget that it is still rare that a member starts, creates, a thread!!
Some members even fear that! So, why not create threads, considered needed or not!
I have seen some created threads as unwanted, but once started,
many members participated, to my surprise and even to theirs (even if it was A YEAR AFTER it was created) !!
(As an example, the Jimbo which I considered anti-gay is one such occassion!
And there are many more examples which others created and became worthy right away or later on!)

To me, Bettermost, is a cultural as well as a social, etc., internet site, like a village!
There are needs to talk about certain values of humanity whether we like it or not-
we learn every day! Hard subjects are needed too (anti-female, anti-gay, slavery 2009, bashing, bullying, etc.,)
as well as soft subjects (collections, Barbie dolls, frivolous ones, fun ones, etc.);
it is noted that politics 2008 are continued in 2009 and those are hard subjects, which needs attention and becomes at times tensed, and also countered balanced ones such threads that makes us laugh heartily!!
To that point, moderators do not mostly create such threads; therefore, I think that a Committee of Issues can start them and try to balance the day's tensed threads by also soupape (kettle ones releasing steam) for us all to get back to humour,
before a member log's out for the day!

I will re-read your post and answer some other thoughts of yours later, and if I forget, please remind me!

As my back is now hurting from physical labour which I must return too, I hope that this post is more clear about one point!

May you and Phillip, and moderators, and all members participate and say what you think FREELY!!!

Au revoir,
hugs!

enjaRouxB and to all too!

EnjaRouxB, you say:
       I am not opposed to having an ombudsman here but I don't see much need for one as the Town Hall provides a place for people to voice their concerns or suggestions. I fear that the ombudsman would just became a ear for whining and complaining by a malcontent few rather than constructive feedback as their already exists many avenues for this that.

...............

EnjaRouxB, I do not think that that will happen, since it will not be the tasks of such ombudsman/woman/person!!!
Of course, it will be a civil post; however, the ombudsman/woman/person can accept or refuse such complaints as a pre-step; once, that post is started and members see how it works, not many useless complaints will be done!!! Review(s) with foundation will be!  - the right word is  NOT complaints, may I repeat but not complaints!

The Ombudsman/woman/person has a post about balances, fairness, justice, which are for structures about Bettermost to become better and better, and those are PRINCIPLES !!!

I will give you examples of that, if you like.

For now, my back hurts too much!

Au revoir,
hugs!
