I hope to honor Heath's birthday by buying the DVD.

Adds for it are all over the place here in our Philadelphia gayborhood. I'm hoping to pick it up at our independent GLBT-oriented bookstore. It's going to cost me about six bucks more than it would at TLA, but "I ain't in the poorhouse," and I like to support the bookstore whenever I can.

Now, I wonder where I can get a piece of cherry cake for Heath's birthday. ...

Addition: Oh, yeah, I'll probably stick with beans for supper on Tuesday.

BTW saw a new DVD commercial last night, where they said "This years Best Picture" with BAFTA, DGA, PGA, and GG in small print at the bottom of the Screen...Dave, Nick and I were yelling  Yee Haw!!  when we heard that!  Anyone else catch that commerical?

I think we should have some cherry cake, and here's a recipe to do so:

Cherry Cake

Note: This goes well with coffee.

INGREDIENTS:

    * 1/2 cup chopped dried cherries
    * 1/2 cup hot water
    * 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
    * 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    * 2 teaspoons baking powder
    * 1/4 teaspoon salt
    * 1 cup white sugar
    * 1 (8 ounce) container vanilla yogurt
    * 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    * 1 egg
    * 1 egg white
    * 1/4 cup chopped pecans
    * 1 tablespoon white sugar

DIRECTIONS:

   1. Combine cherries, hot water, and almond extract: let stand 20 minutes. Drain cherries, and pat dry between layers of paper towels. Set aside.
   2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and 1 cup white sugar. Add yogurt, eggs, and oil. Stir well. Fold in cherries. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9 inch round cake pan.
   3. Stir pecans and 1 tablespoon white sugar together. Sprinkle on top of batter in pan.
   4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 minutes, or until wooden pick comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack 10 minutes. Serve warm, or at room temperature.

I won't be eating any pie on Tuesday.  Got no appetite right now.  I'll take a cup of coffee. I can drink coffee under any emoitonal state, stressed out, emotionally devastated, sad, etc.

Heath, well he has already received two thank you notes from me about doing the film thru, is it CAA.  He didn't respond, not that that was necessary.

I felt if I sent him a card, I'd be put on some sort of list titled "ppl we getta alot of mail from."  Don't know if I wanta get on that list.   ???

Yep, I'm going on Tuesday to Tower to get my copy.  The ppl at Tower Records are really getting tired of me stopping by asking me if the DVD will be in.

Saturday, I asked if your still getting new releases on TUESDAY as planned. They responded by saying "YES (!) BBM will be here Tuesay. I guess they recognized my face. Probably tired of hearing me and asking me everytime I do a rental, Is BBM coming in, in an unemoitonal/detached  manner.   Yes, I can do the repressed emotions routine as well

I'll honor his birthday by going to see BBM again. It's still on theaters here in Spain. I have to see if they have sessions on Tuesday because I saw they were showing it just on weekends.

I like that idea opinionista.. It is still thankfully playing at one theater here in NYC, and I think that it may be my last showing in a theater setting for a while....A good day to see it.
And you can offer up a prayer of thanks for MLK, Jr too, on April 4th. The day he was killed.

Jenny, opinionista! That's a good idea! I'll go see BBM again on the 4th and will have a thought for MLK Jr! Yes!

I so did not realize that the DVD release in the States coincides with Heath's birthday! That's wonderful! Wonder if Michelle is going to get him a BBM DVD.. not that he doesn't already have one, but well.. maybe not. Anyway, I'm going to order mine on amazon.co.uk soon!

I remember it, but since it is in a post that has probably long since been deleted, I don't have it anymore. To be honest, this cherry cake sounds much tastier than that cheesy potato soup recipe (remember, it had 16 pieces of American cheese, ripped in shred? Blech.).

Hey, Heath, if you're lurking here, happy birthday!

In honor of BetterMost's Bumpfest, I went to the last page of Chez Tremblay to find an old, old thread that would be fun or useful to bump, and saw this.  It's from 3 days after we Tremblayans migrated here to BetterMost from IMDb.

Heath's birthday is April 4th.  Got plans?

Good job Elle!!  What a great thread to have found.

You're absolutely right that his birthday is coming up again soon.  We should all put our heads together and come up with something special.

I'll also always remember the nice coincidence that the BBM DVD was initially released on Heath's birthday.

That's especially cool to be able to get in the truck, Front-Ranger. And the restaurant---Heath may have been there too.

Today it's one of the first real spring days here at home. Brown is becoming green, people are trading pants for shorts and I woke up this morning by bird song outside of my window. It feels impossible to mourn today so I've chosen to celebrate instead. Celebrate that life is beautiful and that Heath, while he was here, was beautiful too.

I celebrated by buying a pair of "Heath sunglasses" and then I got behind the wheels of our car and drove aimlessly around, listening to music and just feeling very much alive.

Congrats mr Heath Ledger. And thank you!

Happy birthday from an Optometrist who loved your taste in sunspecs, in fact loved everything about you and can't believe a second birthday has come around. :'(

It is a simply stunning day here, we had long needed rain yesterday and now there is a fresh look to everything. I am going to celebrate by booking my ticket to NYC to meet with some of your multitude of fans.!!!

Buffymon and I both live in Sweden but in totally different parts.....so she celebrate with spring while I mourn with snow.... :'( ....but we went to town today, my son and I. He bought a Nintendo Wii - took him a LONG time to save enough! - and I bought 12 pair of striped socks......OK,I know I maybe overdone it a little bit but they were on sale and I needed new socks so badly...... ;D

Thank you Heath Ledger for making my life richer! Tonight one of the commercial channels on TV here will show "Two Hands" and "Candy", they too celebrate a very talented actor!! Nice  :)

Just had brunch with John Gallagher at L'Orange Bleue, a pretty cafe across the street from Heath's old apartment on Broome Street.  It's chilly and windy here, but sunny.  The food was yummy, and very affordable, too!  Afterwards, we left white tulips and daffodils on the window sill of his building, right underneath the "Aero" logo (no other tributes were there).  John took lots of pics, so stay tuned.  8)

Strangely, I've been sadder and a little tearful the past few days thinking about Heath than I've ever been. Why is that? Maybe because I can remember my own 30th. I've never been a "fan" of any particular actor, ever. Never have been caught up in any form celebrity worship, except when I was a teen I worshiped Bowie. People die prematurely and unexpectedly everyday, and I feel sad for them and their families, but it can't compare with how I feel for Heath and his family and friends. I know I'm not alone in this, but still I just don't understand why this grief is present and still fresh after all this time. It makes me feel like I'm some weirdo.

Anyway, after that confession. Today I went to a dog show! I spent most of my time there with an old acquaintance for 20 years ago who breeds and shows beautiful and sweet tempered Rhodesian Ridgebacks. I've been hemming and hawing about getting a Ridgeback since I've know her, and she has a new litter of puppies! They're 5 weeks old and I'm going to visit them in a couple of weeks. If I get one, which seems likely, I will not name it Heath! ;D I'm thinking "Fluffy" or "Cuddles".

Well, Meryl and I observed Heath Day at L'Orange Bleue, a restaurant on Broome (corner of Crosby) directly opposite 421 Broome.

There are 33 images posted at the thread 'Visit to 421 Broome Street Today' in  'Heath Ledger Remembrance Forum' http://bettermost.net/forum/index.php/topic,16573.240.html

Here are three of the 33 images:

Ooh, on Mondays they have Senegalese drumming.  I could picture Heath liking that.  I just noticed it's at 430 Broome St.

I think you might like this too, Elle!

I had a great Heath Day. Spent 3 hours at the gym, including my favorite activity Hip Hop dance class. Went shopping for new work clothes and walked around downtown. Came home and relaxed a bit before donning my stripes and heading to the beach with my love letter, picture and flowers to deliver to the ocean. It was a beautiful late afternoon with the sun just beginning to set. I wrote his name in the sand and my heart for him...

I wore a striped t-shirt and striped socks yesterday. Instead of looking for the small cowboy hat in a tree I grabbed my family and we went to a street-café, sitting outside in the sun and enjoying ice-cream for the first time this year. It was such a beautiful spring day yesterday. I thought of Heath while in the café, thinking this is already the second spring he is missing. And the second birthday :'(.

I'll go looking for the cowboy hat some time during the coming week, when I have some quiet time to myself.

Thank you John and Meryl, I'll comment on the other thread. And thank you everyone for sharing.

Again, Elle, yes, I agree! Nearly all of the portraits in the 'Site Specific L'Orange Bleue Project Series' paintings by Nikki Schiro are of drummers!

I know the feeling. Sometimes I do, too. But you'e not.

Thanks. Sometimes when I see a picture of him, with his soulful eyes, I still get a little choked up. Why do I grieve for someone I never knew? Perhaps I am conflating my love for the character Ennis with Heath. But then, I love Heath for his portrayal of Ennis. He truly made him alive, and now both are gone. That breaks my heart.

Thanks! I am very much looking forward to getting a canine buddy. I'm looking forward to all the activities: walking, hiking, Lure Coursing (Ridgebacks are raced like Greyhounds-for fun not money) and showing and napping. Ridgebacks love to sleep, preferably in bed with you.

I haven't had a dog for about 8 years after my last one passed (on my b-day no less). Did you notice the Mom's winning placard? The "Central Wyoming Kennel Club"! ;D

I wanted to spend the day doing something fun, rather than mope and it was a great day.

Retropian,

You're not alone.
On Heath's  birthday last year I felt extremely sad, bitterly angry. This year, although the sadness was still there  (to me  it will never go away, he left us far too soon) I was able to celebrate his life, how lucky I am that he was and keeps on being part of my life.

Talking about dogs, I love them. Let us know when you take the puppy home with you.

It's almost noon here and it's a beautiful, sunny spring day. Almost all the snow is gone, I can hear the birds sing and see spring flowers starting to pop up. It´s a rebirth of life.

I'm gonna put my red sunglasses on and go for a leisurely stroll.

I transplanted spring flowering bulbs in my Ennis's back yard. His new trees are full of buds and the air is full of the sweet smell of grass. The wind is blowing and the bushes are tossing their manes, and the dark earth is steaming with fecundity. I was reassured of life's continuation. No need for all the heifers to calve at once.

It was so nice to celebrate Heath's birthday and the beginning of Spring!  I walked around the Back Bay where all the magnolias are in bloom, up and down Commonwealth Avenue.  The smell was intoxicating.

Also, I visited The Masses and watched some of the music videos Heath directed, and thought of what a great film director he would have been; such an interesting visual style.  My favorite wasn't there, but I found it:  http://vimeo.com/2206997.  It's Ben Harper's "Reason to Mourn".
