The more I think about this, the more it tickles me.  

Someday, thousands of years in the future, if the balustrade lasts that long, some archaeologist will look at it, declare that the carvings were deliberately done to catch the sun at certain parts of the day to cast fertility symbols on the walkway so people would be blessed as they walked by.

heh, I got this by email and the description said it was on a bridge pointing towards the houses of parliament in London - where they are all dicks!!
