The Four Deadly Habits A Norwegian study has found that a combination of four bad habits vastly increases the risk of premature death. They are:
* Smoking
* Lack of Exercise
* Poor Diet
* Excessive Alcohol
The study, which looked at the lifestyle habits of 4886 people, allocated points for each poor behaviour.
Over a period of 20 years, there were 1080 deaths reported:
* 431 due to cardiovascular disease
* 318 due to cancer
* 331 due to other causes
Compared to participants who had no bad habits, those with all four unhealthy behaviours were three times more likely to die from cardiovascular disease and had a death risk equivalent to being 12 years older.
"Modest but achievable adjustments to lifestyle behaviours are likely to have a considerable impact at both the individual and population level," researchers said.
