The review of LAOD in The New Yorker is very positive, especially about Jake's acting.

I saw it last night and thought it was very entertaining.  The reviews are right--it can't make up its mind what kind of movie it is--but I just went with the flow and enjoyed it.  Very impressive work from Jake and Anne.  Jake especially has grown so much more confident since Brokeback, and this is the first movie where I've actually jumped on the bandwagon with those who adore his physical charms.  Like Lee, I was reminded of BBM a few times, especially in the last scene of the movie:  another parking lot confrontation and embrace, this time with a happier resolution.

I saw the movie over the weekend, I really liked it. I thought Jake and Anne were great together.

Plot is sooo overrated.

The movie opens here next week. Maybe it will stop snowing sometime soon so we can get to town and go see it.

Jake Gyllenhaal said getting naked for his new film was a must

Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed he and Love And Other Drugs co-star Anne Hathaway had to get completely naked for the film's sex scenes to make it believable.

The Brokeback Mountain star said he and Anne spend much of the film nude, because Jake doesn't recommend wearing boxer shorts while lovemaking.

He revealed: "I've never had sex with boxers on and it's an odd thing to watch an actor..."

Jake added, jokingly: "Not to say I haven't tried, but I don't recommend it."

The Hollywood heartthrob explained he felt it was important to show his and Anne's characters were truly comfortable around each other.

He said: "I think we all decided that if we were going to tell a love story, one of the essential elements of a love story is sex and it should be, and if we were going to be as open and intimate in the love story as we could be we'd have to the same thing in the sex.

"And when you see two people in a movie like that, particularly as an actor and they're portraying two people in love, it's like how do you really truly, even unconsciously believe that these two people are in love, if they don't want to be naked around each other, you know?

"So that was really important to us, because we knew that if we did we'd get somewhere in the audience's unconscious the idea that these two characters were actually in love and they weren't just actors telling a love story."

Anne Hathaway found new film Love and Other Drugs challenging

Anne Hathaway has revealed she suffered panic attacks before filming close-ups on her new film Love And Other Drugs.

The Devil Wears Prada star plays Maggie, a young artist with early onset Parkinson's Disease, who falls for a charismatic pharmaceutical salesman played by Jake Gyllenhaal. And while the pair spend much of the film frolicking naked in bed, Anne found her deep character hard to leave at work.

She revealed: "I'd have these little panics before we shot the close-ups and I would become terrified that I wasn't being truthful enough and Ed (director Edward Zwick) had to really sit there with me and hold my hand and be very patient and talk me through it.

"I hate being that kind of needy actor. I love just showing up and doing my job and it wasn't like that this time. But just like my character, I learned an awful lot about what it's like to need people around you and what it's like on the days where you can't get there yourself."

Anne explained she found the character very demanding.

She said: "I didn't know how not to take her home with me. I think in some ways because she's such a different character than me, I was afraid to let her go at the end of the day 'cos I thought oh gosh, what if she's not there in the morning.

"I was also playing a character who was trying to avoid feeling fear and so my comfort with my fear but her discomfort with hers and her attempt to avoid it and my inability to let her go at the end of the day created for some for very confused, tearful nights."

Saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it. Jake and Anne just spark on screen together they play off each other so well. I thought the brother added a needed light relief to the film. Cal thinks he could be the.new Seth rogan go to guy. But no way they look like brothers!

I FINALLY had the opportunity to watch Jake's new movie "Love and Other Drugs"

Here are a few thoughts (warning for general shallowness on my part)

As a Brokie, I was slightly apprehensive about watching this movie. Would it feel weird to watch "Lureen" and "Jack Twist" getting it on? Would I sit there and wonder "where the heck is Ennis?" Luckily, the movie is as far from Brokeback Mountain as one can get.

The move is set in the mid-nineties (underscored by songs by the Spin Doctors and Fatboy Slim among others) and is about pharmaceutical salesman, Jamie Randall (Jake), who cares for little more than selling the latest drugs (whether they are any good or not) and shagging. His good looks and talked about big dick helps. He really hits jackpot when he stumbles upon a new product called Viagra. Then one day he meets Maggie (Anne Hathaway), who is a Parkinson´s patient. They quickly jump into bed, both declaring they aren't interested in more than casual encounters. But their relationship deepens and the question becomes how these two people will find a way to be together in spite of her illness and his shallowness.

Funny things is, that as Jake's character progressively gets more depth, I as a viewer felt more and more shallow because all through the viewing (helped on by the fact that Jake constantly is naked and the large number of penis jokes) one single sentence kept running through my brains: OMG he is hot! So although the movie´s message was about love, it left the viewer (Ok - me anyway) feeling mostly lust (lusting after Jake, that is).

The downside is that the movie at times feels a bit rushed. Director Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai, Blood Diamonds) tries to squeeze too much into one movie. Is it mainly a love story or a story about living with an incurable disease or is Zwick trying to shine a light on the the pharmaceutical industry? All three storylines work very well in their own right, but the effort to combine all three causes the movie to loose some of its potential impact. But what´s left is still a nicely paced, witty and well-crafted movie.

On the performances: Jake is great. I wasn´t aware of how much I missed his goofy, quirky side until now (and congrats to him on his Golden Globe nomination). Jake is back in the game! As for Anne Hathaway she does a very good job too as the witty and strong, yet fragile, Maggie. Oliver Platt is also in it and (as always) gives a very solid performance.

I´m gonna watch it again. Right now in fact. And at times use the freeze button.
