I've heard it pronounced before. I think someone pronounced it on the Travel Channel once. God, it was something else to listen to!

Kosciusko is pronounced Kaw-see-AH-skoh. (long O at the end). It's a Native American word. I don't know what it means though. We have many Native American words for towns and counties in Indiana; most of them are Delaware, Mohican, Huron and Shawnee words. :)

Translated into English, it means....

"The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave".

Strange people the Welsh!! ::) ::) ::)

Susie  :)

ps. I didn't mean that ... my best friend in the whole wide world is from Wales!! Love you Lee  :-*

Oh, that's why she can pronounce it then!! I also think I remember seeing that name in the Guiness Book listed as the longest name in the world. I think I may have seen it in there. If it isn't the longest name in the world, I'd hate to see what IS!!

Maybe it was named after this bloke....

Kosciusko - Polish patriot and soldier who fought with Americans in the American Revolution (1746-1817)  (from thefreedictionary.com)

 :)

Well, that's interesting you found that Susie, because I remember we brought that up in Indiana history class back in the seventh grade! WAAAY back then. But my history teacher said it was a Native American word. But all those history books lie, so who really knows for certain! ;) :D

Cody IS my puppy! My great big puppy! He's my  (almost) 4 year old giant puppy! :)

He's my big baby and I WUUUV him!!!

If you ever come to Indiana Gary you can meet Cody in person! But he may drown you in great big wet kisses all over your face! He's a very sweet and gentle dog. He loves everyone he meets.

Actually I was referring to a different friend ... but she's from Wales too. :D

I love driving through Wales, especially when you get into the countryside ... thankfully all the signs have English "subtitles" but they sure do have some weird and wonderful names.

Did you know that the longest word without vowels in the english language originates from Wales?  The word is TWYNDYLLYNGS, meaning twins.

I Love the Welsh language!!  It's so ... musical!

Susie  :)

Yes it is. Welsh is a beautiful language. I think Gaelic is pretty too.

Oreo is sitting right here next to me! He's playing with a piece of string! I'm dangling it over his head and he's batting at it. I'll post something and then play with the cat for a quick minute. Cody's mad at me right now. He got a bath and he didn't like it. He's in the other room pouting right now. He'll forgive me an about another hour! He never stays mad with me for very long.
