This was just suggested as a Topic Of The Week on DCF, and I thought it would fit in well here too.

How did you choose the set up of your profile?  Does you Screen Name have any special meaning?  Why do you have the avatar you have?  What does the text under your avatar represent?  Why did you decide on the signature line that you have?  How does it all express you?

My screen name is CellarDweller.  I picked it because my computer, phone, TV, DVD/VCR, all my CDs and DVDs, CD player are all in the cellar of the house, so that's where I spend my nights when I'm home.

My avatar has almost always been my picture.  There were other ones, but I can't remember what they were, it was so long ago.  The pics that end up as my avatar are always taken of me at Brokie gatherings.  It's currently a zombie for Halloween, but that will change as of tomorrow.

The text under my avatar changes occasionally, depending on my mood.  I believe the text I had the longest was:  "City boy's mentality with a cowboy's soul".  I have it because I believe it matches my personality.  My mentality is definitely "city".  However, I love putting on my cowboy hat and boots at a Brokie gathering and going horseback riding, hiking, and being out in nature, which is where the "cowboy's soul" comes in.  It's currently the Halloween themed "Zombies - Eat Flesh", which is a spoof of the Subway franchaise line "Subway - Eat Fresh".  Prior to that, there was a dedication to Rich that said "Heaven Has a New Angel - RIP Rich".

My signature line has changed a few different times during my time here.  My prior one is the one I've had the longest.  I do want the right to marry, and that's what the line signifies.  Currently it's a group of shadowy zombies approaching for Halloween.  As of tomorrow the marriage equality one will be back.

My screen name, well it has a long history. Through the early years of the internet I was always some version of the Talon in Tampa. I love birds and have 6 exotics, and the birds toes are "talons" so that's how the screen name got started. The Talon or version of it was also my stage name when I helped a local Dominatrix in her Tampa Dungeon. During the same time period I wrote a variety of stories and local columns on a BBS (remember those), in Tampa called "The Castle Noir". That is where I developed the signature usually seen at the end of my posts, i.e. TampaTalon ^">. The little insignia seen after is supposed to represent a bird, wing, eyes and beak. Birds always represented some kind of freedom for me so that's how my handle developed. Not at all ironic my favorite birds are parrots, sort of the clowns of the bird world, I love comedy. I was always a free spirited soul with dark irreverent humor so every thing fell into place and then Brokeback came along. Somehow the spirit of the movie seemed so free to me on those camping trips unlike real life. Also for years I carried many dark secrets, sorta like Ennis and I related to the comedy of Jack. Alas as I get older I realized the "never is enuff time" so that's how that line from the movie ended up under my avatar. As far as my signature, I relate to the song by EmmyLou Harris. The theme song just fit my life and sorta makes this tuff soul of my weak and wanna cry.

Wow! This all just poured outta me like a busted pinata!
Thanks fer asking the thoughtful question.

No big mystery to mine. My name is Jeff and I wear Wrangler jeans because Levis make my butt look saggy.

It was only after I chose the screen name that I remembered the (now late) porn star who went by the name Jack Wrangler.  :-\

Screen name's my name, don't wear it out!  I got the text under my avatar from one of those foaming-at-the-mouth demonstrators who misspelled "ammo" in his Second Amendment protest, and I find that hilarious.  And my sig line is from one of my gay cowboy tales.  My av is of Hugh Jackman, who is my ideal casting for my main character.  No surprises in any of that.

"Marge Innavera" is an imaginary character on NPR's "Car Talk" show. She's on a list of "credits" at the end, all puns; Marge Innavera is the "statistician."  I've had several screen names over the years but try to pick names that can be used in a number of places.

The coyote icon refers to a spirit name I got 30 years ago.

The text under my avatar changes frequently and so does the signature.

My name started as "ineedcrayons," from Alma Jr.'s line in BBM, which I think summarizes the movie's themes -- we all need crayons/color/joy/hapiness in our lives.

One year, for Heath's birthday, we changed our usernames to lines from Heath's movies. I chose "Whysoserious?"

Afterward, I combined the two, because I think they go well together. The pairing is sort of paradoxical, but it underlines the abovementioned theme.

To find my avatar, I always just look up "serious crayons" on google images and pick one I like. Once, for example, I had a crayon drawing of a BBM-like mountain scene. I particularly like my current one because, as I mentioned on the Halloween-costume thread, it's a picture made out of crayons. I don't mean a crayon drawing, but a photo of actual crayons.

The name Buffymon predates my time here on Bettermost. It must have been back in 2002 or 2003 that I really got into Buffy the Vampire (the tv-series) and I registered on a Buffy forum. I just picked the first thing that came to mind - Buffy + Mon (the first three letters of my name) = Buffymon. Who could have guessed that seven years later I was still gonna go under that name! If someone called out Buffymon in the street, I would definately respond. Except for my facebook site, I always use the same name.

My avatars change regulary. Right now I have one of Jack from the Dozy Embrace scene. That scene has always had a special place in my heart because the way Jack feels when he watches Ennis ride off...I can really feel it and it´s almost as if I am there. I can feel the warmth from the fire, hear the wind through the threes.

I don´t have a sig line simply because I didn´t feel I had anything more to say at the moment.

Mine is pretty obvious. David is my first name and "Indy" is a nickname for Indianapolis - the city I live in. The actor Ian Somerhalder appears in my avatar....

"You've got male" is a play on words basically, of the famous AOL sign-on greeting "You've Got Mail". And of course it's directed at Ian. ;)

RouxB is the name of my car. It is red (ruby) but I wanted something more gender neutral. The enja part is short for ennis and jack.

Everything else changes. Did you fall for a shooting star is from one of my favorite songs, Drops of Jupiter, which is my Brokeback Mountain experience theme song. I incorporated the shooting stars in my Heath memorial tattoo. Heath and Jake are my stars and Heath I fell for hard hard hard.

I picked Penthesilea for IMDB, because I didn't want a name with an add-on, like numbers or whatever. So I wanted a rare name that was still free. Penthesilea even predates my BBM experience.
Penthesilea was the queen of the Amazons. It was also the nickname of a character in the British TV series Cracker.

My avatar has been Ennis from the beginning on. I'm an Ennis girl, can't help it. I had the same pic for more than four years. Two days ago I decided to take a variation of the pic for my avatar. I'm so spontaneous .

My sigline is Heath because I'm a Heathen; and the horses remind me of Rich. I chose it last summer. After picking a new avatar, I think it's also time for a new signature.

I know I'm never here, so it's a little cheeky to jump in, but I'm gonna do it anyway.  My real name is Celeste, and my user id of "YaadPyar" is a a Hindi term - yaad (pronounced yod) and pyar (pronounced pee-ar) means love and remembrance.  It relates to my practice of meditation, i.e., 'G*d's love and remembrance" or Baba's yaad pyar.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with BBM, but no one else ever has this id, and I like being reminded of what it means.  My avatar reminds me always of the hills in the beginning of BBM when Ennis' truck is driving down in the early morning fog.  And I love the colors.

It's been so interesting to see names change over time, and try to figure out who is who.  I still love that RouxB was the inspiration for the little 'fro smiley.

Thanks for letting me play!

I read once that the pyramids were actually attempts to replicate mountains which were thought to generate a magic aura. Brokeback Mountain always seemed a magical place to me - hence the name.

PS I since found out that The Magic Mountain is a famous novel by Thomas Mann.

Fire From Heaven is the title of the first book in the Alexander trilogy by Mary Renault. Jack and Ennis experienced a coup de foudre (love struck by lightening) so I thought it apt.

My screen name is my real name. My avatar is a photo of myself taken on 5 Sept 2009 by my friend, George. We were on a motoring tour of the Riverina region of New South Wales in Australia, primarily visiting  historic sites connected to the cult of the gay bushranger (outlaw), Andrew Scott, alias Captain Moonlite. I had only just bought the cowboy hat a couple of days previously, in one of the small country towns we passed through on out travels. We were walking through the town when we came upon a store selling what could best be termed "western" apparel. They had a huge range of cowboy shirts, boots, jeans, saddles and hats, etc. I fell in love with the black cowboy hat. It fitted perfectly and was so comfortable to wear. It felt so right to be wearing it, and even though the price was somewhat high, I simply had to have it. My sig-line "Rodeo" graphic reminds me of Jack in his red shirt.

Of course my name comes from the line in Brokeback Mountain.   If you can't fix it
ya gotta stand it.  It fit me and the state of mind I was in at the time I came here.  I
was very deep in grief, and then the movie just made it worse.  I was in a state of severe
depression.  I cried all the time from the grief, and then I got worse if it was possible
after I saw BBM.  My family was trying to get me to go for counseling.  That line kept on resonating to me.  If you can't fix it.  Which you can't a death.  I thought "you gotta stand
it."  But maybe, just maybe you could kind of fix yourself, if not the problem.  I came here
looking for a way to try and fix myself.
The Avatar that I had for three years was Spirit Lake and Mt. St Helens.  The one that exploded the first year we moved here to Oregon.  Because it reminded me of the lake
that Jack and Ennis camped, by in the movie.
My signature line is the painting of Ennis and I loved it so much, and think that it
shows the intellect that he had, that was so inherent.  He looks as if he can think in
three directions at a time.  The more I find out about him, the more amazed I am at his intellect.

Didn't we have an old thread about this?

My name is simply Spanish for "Of/From the Rain".

An ex-BF picked it for me a long time ago and I liked it because it symbolized for me being the 'voice at the back of the room' or 'lone voice in the wilderness'.  Plus being lazy and unable to keep up with multiple changes, I simply kept it as I wander from board to board.

My icon images and signature lines are simply things I like, found symbolic or that refer to events in my life.  The text about truth is something I found profound - we want to be associated with the truth, but will not find any comfort in it.  Which I find true in very many situations and I try to keep that in mind when I post.  People are likely not going to want to hear the truth because it makes them uncomfortable, but that doesn't mean I should stop saying it.
